Puscifer, the Northern Arizona-based band helmed by Maynard James Keenan (Tool, A Perfect Circle), will release an eight-song EP titled Donkey Punch The Night on February 19 via Puscifer Entertainment.
“While continuing our tradition of releasing a few new songs at a time,” explained Keenan, “I also had an itch that needed scratching, and that itch was ‘Balls To The Wall.’ Which was followed by an even harder to reach itch known as ‘Bohemian Rhapsody.’ And scratch them we did.”
The collection features two new songs written by Keenan and Puscifer cohorts Mat Mitchell, Carina Round and Josh Eustis: “Breathe” and “Dear Brother,” as well as two covers: Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” and Accept’s “Balls To The Wall.” Donkey Punch The Night was recorded in Jerome, Arizoza, in Keenan’s Caduceus Cellars (www.caduceus.org) with the same roster from 2011′s Conditions of My Parole (Keenan, Mitchell, Round, Eustis, Matt McJunkins and Jeff Friedl) and guests Zac Rae (piano), Juliette Commagere (vocals), Josh Morreau (bass) and Claire Acey (vocals).
Remixes of the four songs round-out the release with contributions from Los Angeles techno wizard Drumcell, Big Black Delta (aka Jonathan Bates, formerly of Mellowdrone and touring guitarist for M83), Sonoio (Italian multi-instrumentalist Alessandro Cortini of Modwheelmood and touring keyboard player for Muse and NIN) and Central American DJ, Silent Servant, who is well known for his mash-up of post-punk and techno.

Puscifer recently announced their first tour dates outside of North America with the band performing three shows in Australia as well as performances at Lollapalooza Brazil and Lollapalooza Chile.

The upcoming biopic of legendary Queen frontman Freddie Mercury has been given the working title of Mercury. Producer Graham King—who is currently promoting his latest movie Hugo—revealed the news to DigitalSpy.co.uk, but said that he was unsure whether that would be the final title.
King also said he hopes that the film, which will star Sacha Baron Cohen as the the charismatic vocalist, will begin shooting next year.

Legendary actor and recording artist William Shatner recently unleashed his new double-album, Seeking Major Tom, featuring cameos from hard-rock and metal notables like Zakk Wylde, Mike Inez, Ritchie Blackmore, and Michael Schenker on covers of Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, and others. Now Shatner, who was named the Honorary Headbanger at the 2011 Revolver Golden Gods award show in April, has released the frickin’ amazing music video for his rendition of Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” featuring John Wetton of King Crimson. Queen’s famous 1986 concert at London’s Wembley Stadium is to be streamed for the first time ever, on You Tube, for 48 hours beginning at 12 a.m. EST on September 5. That date marks what would have been the 65th birthday of iconic Queen frontman Freddie Mercury.
The group played two sold-out concerts to 150,000 fans on consecutive nights in July 1986, and this stream will show the second night’s performance, which took place on July 12. The concert included the band’s biggest hits, such as “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “We Are the Champions,” and “We Will Rock You.”

Actor, recording artist, and author William Shatner—also this year’s Honorary Headbanger at the Revolver Golden Gods—has announced the track listing for his upcoming album, Searching for Major Tom (Cleopatra), due out later this year. As we bid farewell to a year full of tragedy, the new issue of Revolver magazine—available on newsstands everywhere on December 21—remembers many of hard rock and metal’s most dearly departed. The cover features a stunning painting by legendary comic-book artist J.G. Jones, acclaimed for his work on Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman, as well as for co-creating the series Wanted, which was adapted into a 2008 movie starring Angelina Jolie. Jones depicts Ronnie James Dio, Slipknot’s Paul Gray, Avenged Sevenfold’s the Rev, Type O Negative’s Peter Steele, Pantera’s Dimebag Darrell, Metallica’s Cliff Burton, Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain, Ozzy Osbourne’s Randy Rhoads, Queen’s Freddie Mercury, and Alice in Chains’ Layne Staley rocking together in heaven.
