Formed in 2004 in Nashville, Tennessee, RED are a band that has really grown and come into its own over the years. It seems like each album they release garners more hype than the last and comes out stronger than the previous. It shouldn’t come as any surprise that their fourth record, the newly released Release the Panic, was highly anticipated.

RED have always had a strong Christian message to go with their decisive alt-rock sound, which has become so addictive over the years. Amid their more aggressive numbers, they’ve also always mixed in peaceful ballads that grow in intensity as the songs progress. Release the Panic continues this path and takes it to the next level. RED definitely experiment with more techno-esque sounds than on previous release, but it works better than fans might expect. The uplifting message is stronger than ever on this release, as heard on anthemic heart-pounders such as “Perfect Life,” “Die For You,” and “Same Disease,” and some of the most commanding ballads, like “Hold Me Now” and “Glass House,” that the band has ever recorded.

Release the Panic should catapult RED to the high ranks of today’s top radio-rock acts, a destination they rightfully should have reached years ago. REGGIE EDWARDS

Their fourth album, Release the Panic, hits stores in both Deluxe and Standard editions on Tuesday, February 5!

Rock group RED will unleash their fourth album, Release the Panic, in both Deluxe and Standard editions on Tuesday, February 5 via Essential (Provident Label Group/Sony)–it’s available for preorder on iTunes. In anticipation, the band is premiering the video for album title track, “Release The Panic,” right here right now. The concept for post-apocalyptic, revolution fantasy clip was created by RED who brought Chris Corrado (Eagle Eye, Charlie Wilson’s War, Indiana Jones & The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull) on board to direct the video.

“We pulled out all the stops…again,” guitarist Anthony Armstrong says the video. “This is the sequel to our video for ‘Feed The Machine.’ There are no rules when making a video, so we made a movie. We like the theatricality and metaphoric approach to making videos. We want to tell a story, but make sure it is exciting and something fans will always look forward to and ask, ‘When’s the next one coming?’ We love knowing that these videos are a suspension of the reality out there in the world around us…”

Watch the “Release The Panic” clip below and let us know what you think in the comments. You can also stream the new album in its entirety today at ARTISTDIRECT.

Drummer Mike Portnoy has accused his former band, Dream Theater, of ripping off hard rockers Red for their song “Build Me Up, Break Me Down.” The implication was made after a poster had commented on Portnoy’s own website forum about the similarity of the track to Red’s previously released “Feed the Machine.”

The plot is thickened by the fact that Dream Theater guitarist and main songwriter John Petrucci named Red’s Until We Have Faces—from which “Feed the Machine” is taken—as his album of the year on Roadrunner Records’ site.

Portnoy, who left Dream Theater last year, said the following:

“Check out the first song on fave album of the year…. WOW, the arrangement and orchestration sounds awfully familiar!! Surely it must be an intentional ‘nugget’ for the fans… It couldn’t possibly be blatant formula plagiarism, now could it…?? I just have to laugh…”

After fellow posters responded by calling the Adrenaline Mob, and former Avenged Sevenfold, skinsman “Classless,” Portnoy retorted by saying:

“Hey…I’m not trying to start a war…. and I am indeed totally in a happy place in my life and career… I’m just merely making an observation and posting openly on my own forum like I always have and always will… If anybody ELSE wants to blow this up, it’s their choice and doing…not mine!”

Portnoy then went further, stating:

“And P.S.–to defend music that I co-wrote/arranged (that were cited previously in this thread), there’s a difference between ‘inspiration corner’/'copping a certain vibe’ and blatantly rewriting an existing song or formula section by section…”

Listen to both tracks, below, and decide for yourself.
