Which part of it did you come up with first?
The music always comes first for me. It began with a riff and just took shape from there. The song has a strong Slayer vibe, who is definitely one of my biggest influences, but it wasn’t something I intentionally went for. I’m too caught up in what I’m doing to pay attention to “I want this to sound like this band“… once I’m done with a song, it’s easy for me to listen back and say “Yeah, this is straight up Slayer style.” You can’t trust someone that doesn’t like Slayer.

Was this an easy song to write?
Writing the music for this song was pretty seamless. I worked on the verse for a while, left it, then came back to it and banged out the rest. Lyrically, the song was a few hours of sitting down and hammering out some ideas and focusing them. That’s how all the lyrics for this record were done. Recording this song was easier than anticipated. The intro riff—and when it repeats later in the song—was intimidating but it was one of those freak things where I just nailed it each time I tracked it, fortunately.
