Last night, Rush were among the inductees at the occasionally unruly 28th Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony at Los Angeles’ Nokia Theatre.

“Rock and roll has forever been ensconced in mystery,” said Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl during his induction speech for Rush. “But there’s one mystery that surely eclipses them all: When the fuck did Rush become cool? … Their legacy is that of a band that stayed true to themselves no matter how uncool they seemed to anyone. Rush have always been cool! Consider this mystery solved and it’s our honor to finally induct Rush into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.”

Foo Fighters’ Taylor Hawkins and Grohl then appeared on a darkened stage dressed in vintage ’70s-era Rush kimonos and performed the “Overture” from Rush’s classic 2112 album. They were then joined on stage by the real Rush — Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson and Neil Peart — who played spirited versions of “Tom Sawyer” and “The Spirit of Radio.”

You can check out some fan-filmed footage of Foo Fighters covering Rush below. Stay tuned for more videos from the event!

Other inductees included Heart, Lou Adler, Donna Summer, Quincy Jones, Randy Newman and the late blues legend Albert King, who was honored by Gary Clark Jr. and John Mayer.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will air May 18 on HBO.

When Rush are finally inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next month, Foo Fighters will be doing the inducting.

Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl — who seems to be everywhere these days — and Taylor Hawkins will honor Rush’s Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson and Neil Peart at the ceremony, which will take place at the Nokia Theatre in LA on April 18. Event organizer Joel Peresman also said Grohl and Hawkins might also perform with Rush.

“Dave and Taylor were one of the first people we thought about to induct Rush,” Peresman told Rolling Stone. “They said ‘yes’ in about two seconds. I’m hopeful [futureusgallerythey will perform]. More than a few times in the past, people have got caught in the moment and decide to perform. That’s what happened last year with Green Day — they were just there to present an award to Guns N’ Roses, and after hanging around rehearsals, they decided to play. You have Dave around, Don Henley there — who knows what will happen? We have some very interesting people.”

Other confirmed “inductors” include Don Henley of the Eagles, who will induct Randy Newman. Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready and Alice In Chains’ Jerry Cantrell will appear with Heart, who will be inducted by Soundgarden’s Chris Cornell.

Here’s the full list of this year’s inductees:

• Rush
• Public Enemy
• Heart
• Randy Newman
• Donna Summer
• Albert King (Hear the newly remastered ‘Born Under a Bad Sign’ album HERE)
• Lou Adler
• Quincy Jones

For more about Albert King, check out the new issue of Guitar Aficionado magazine, which celebrates the blues master’s overdue induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with a look at his life and legacy. It’s available at the Guitar World Online Store!

While thrashers Anthrax have written their fair share of headbanging classics, their biggest hits, at least on international radio, have been covers of songs by Public Enemy, Joe Jackson, and Trust. So recording a mostly covers EP (plus a remix of their own song “Crawl”) makes perfect sense, and Anthrax do it with gusto on Anthems. Frontman Joey Belladonna’s falsetto fits slick Big Rock Radio hits like Rush’s stuttering “Anthem” and Boston’s revved-up “Smokin’” perfectly, but it lacks the sweaty, blue-collar grit to sell AC/DC’s “T.N.T.” convincingly—though he sounds more haggard, and fittingly so, on Thin Lizzy’s “Jailbreak.” The EP’s triumph is Anthrax’s ultra-metal take on a song that would make most metalheads cringe: Journey’s “Keep On Runnin’.” The fact that guitarists Scott Ian and Rob Caggiano bring the noise on a song by freakin’ Journey suggests that if they dig their picks into their strings deep enough, they can add a pair of cast-metal balls to nearly any songs.
Local H are ringing in the holidays with a special treat for their fans–and for fans of another band, prog-rock legends and soon-to-be Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Rush.

“Attention all planets of the solar federation! In honor of the Winter Solstice, the end of the world according to the Mayans, and, uh, Christmas, Local H humbly offers you this gift of song,” Local H frontman Scott Lucas says. “The band has been playing this opus live since last New Year’s Eve and decided to record it properly this fall. With the help of producer Andy Gerber at Million Yen, they’ve gotten it together just in time for 21/12. Rush on over to click play below to hear it. And in the words of Tiny Tim: ‘A Merry Christmas to us all; and Neil Peart bless us, every one!’”

You can download the song at Localh.com.

Local H will ring in the new year with two nights of shows at Chicago’s Beat Kitchen. The December 30th show is early (8 p.m.) and all-ages, while the December 31st show is late night and 21+. A handful of tickets are still available for each night.

Here, Brooklyn Allman (pictured left), vocalist of the hard-rock band Picture Me Broken, selects her faves.

5. Shiny Toy Guns, III
“A well-written album and a strong comeback for Carah-Faye Charnow.”

4. Rush, Clockwork Angels
“I’m really stoked to see a classic and legendary band like Rush release something that sounds so modern. I think a lot of ‘comeback releases’ sound entirely dated as if the band was too stubborn to evolve, but this is not the case with Rush.”

3. Lana Del Ray, Paradise EP
“I think Lana Del Rey is breathing new life into pop music. This follow-up EP to her debut, Born To Die, is melodically and lyrically rich and very sexy.”

2. Muse, The 2nd Law
“This album sounds like Queen from space. Muse is always three steps ahead sonically.”

1. Jack White, Blunderbuss
“This album was my favorite of the year. He makes an incredible solo artist and his songwriting only gets better as time goes on. I also love how he used two bands on this release, one with all women and one with all men.”

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has just announced their list of nominees to be inducted as part of the 2013 class.

Included in the list are several names that perpetually appear on “Hall of Fame Snubs” lists, including Deep Purple, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Heart and Rush.

“The definition of ‘rock and roll’ means different things to different people, but as broad as the classifications may be, they all share a common love of the music,” said Joel Peresman, President and CEO of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation in a press statement. “This year we again proudly put forth a fantastic array of groups and artists that span the entire genre that is ‘rock and roll.’”

While Rush are usually cited as one of the most egregious omissions from the hallowed halls of Cleveland, guitarist Alex Lifeson seemingly couldn’t care less about the prospect of induction.

“I really don’t feel the need to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame because, at the end of the day, it’s just somebody’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame,” Lifeson told Guitar World earlier this year. “They have a particular process, and they’re welcome to do it however they want to do it. If they feel that they want to exclude a certain genre or certain bands from their hall of fame, they’re welcome to do it. I don’t need to be in there. I have no interest in going there. I think that so long as we keep this relationship, we probably both benefit. If Rush is not in there, the controversy continues, and it keeps Rush fans very pissed-off. There’s some great bands in there that I really respect. Just recently, it was great to see the Chili Peppers get in—I love those guys. But I don’t need it. I have no interest in going, and hope that we never will.”

Rush posted the following to their Facebook page earlier today, “‎We are honored to be among the nominees for this year’s Rock ‘N Roll Hall of Fame. We are especially thrilled for the many, many dedicated Rush fans to whom this nomination is so very important.”

Rush received the Ronnie James Dio Lifetime Achievement Award at this year’s Revolver Golden Gods.

The full list of nominees for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013 is:

•	The Paul Butterfield Blues Band
•	Chic
•	Deep Purple
•	Heart
•	Joan Jett and the Blackhearts
•	Albert King
•	Kraftwerk
Watch the performance below.

Frontman Jack Black made some waves in an interview with Rolling Stone in which he claimed that Nirvana were the “last big rock band.”

“When you think about rock at its origin,” he he said, “and you think of The Beatles and millions of kids screaming as loud as they can and running as fast as they can toward The Beatles, there’s no one who is that kind of lightning rod, who commands that kind of power and has that kind of creative magma.”

He continued, “I contend that the last band to really have that kind of power, I’m gonna say, was Nirvana. Who since Nirvana has been as big as Nirvana, in that way?”

Tenacious D, who recently attended the 4th Annual Revolver Golden Gods Awards to present the Ronnie James Dio Lifetime Achievement Award to Rush, are also featured in the latest issue of Revolver, on newsstands everywhere today and online here.

Rize of the Fenix is out now. You can still stream the album in full here.

New honorees, presenters, performers, and special guests have been announced for the fourth annual REVOLVER GOLDEN GODS, presented by Epiphone®, America’s only hard-rock and heavy-metal award show. The event will take place Wednesday, April 11, at Club Nokia in Downtown Los Angeles and is almost sold out. Fans without tickets can still watch the show, though, as it will be broadcast live in its entirety on Xbox LIVE, as well as on the Xbox and Revolver Facebook pages. The award show live broadcast is the first ever of its kind and kicks off globally at 6 PM PST/9 PM EST.

The Ronnie James Dio Lifetime Achievement Award, presented by Xbox LIVE, will go to prog-rock pioneers RUSH, who will release their highly anticipated 19th studio album, Clockwork Angels, this year on Roadrunner Records. (Previous honorees include hard-rock and metal legends MÖTLEY CRÜE, Lemmy Kilmister of MOTÖRHEAD, and Ozzy Osbourne.) The award will be presented by Jack Black and Kyle Gass of TENACIOUS D, whose new record, Rize of the Fenix, hits stores on May 15. Rush’s Neil Peart commented, “We are honored and delighted to receive this honor—especially because it will be presented by Jack and Kyle. Our ‘lifetimes’ are not over yet, and we dearly hope our ‘achievements’ are not either, so I suppose you could say that to us this is the ‘So Far, So Good’ award.” Of presenting the award, Black commented, “Rush was the most impressive band, musically, when I was just learning about rock. Weirdly, they got your body moving in interpretive-dancing ways, but it was still aggressive. Their stuff was just so complex and so tasty!”

Right before the official start of the show, PANTERA will celebrate the 20th anniversary of their landmark album, Vulgar Display of Power, with the worldwide debut of their first music video in 12 years, for the previously unreleased song, “Piss,” from the Vulgar recording sessions. PANTERA drummer Vinnie Paul commented, “‘Piss’ is the only unheard complete Pantera track in existence. It was recorded at the same time as Vulgar Display of Power and it’s 100 percent Pantera with attitude and our signature groove! After mixing it, I can’t believe it didn’t make the record! So it’s 2012 and 20 years later and new Pantera music has been delivered. Cheers!”

Adding to the festivities, The 2012 REVOLVER GOLDEN GODS AWARDS SHOW will feature one-of-a-kind special performances and collaborations. Newly announced performers include KORN, who are nominated for multiple Golden Gods awards. “Revolver rocks! We are psyched to be nominated for Album of the Year—looking forward to rocking the house, too!” said Korn frontman Jonathan Davis. Heavy-metal heavyweights TRIVIUM have also been added to this jam-packed bill, as well as legendary guitar shredder Yngwie Malmsteen, who will open the show, playing “The Star Spangled Banner,” alongside a full military color guard. Finally, TWISTED SISTER’s Dee Snider is set to appear with previously announced performers BLACK VEIL BRIDES for a performance of his band’s ’80s anthem “I Wanna Rock.”

The live concert will also include MARILYN MANSON, who appears on the cover of the latest issue of Revolver, available online here; iconic GRAMMY-winning guitarist SLASH featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators; EVANESCENCE; and SIXX:A.M., featuring Nikki Sixx of MÖTLEY CRÜE, acclaimed rock producer and songwriter James Michael, and DJ Ashba of GUNS N’ ROSES, in their first performance in almost four years.

Also on April 11, The GRAMMY Museum, next door to Club Nokia, will open its new exhibit Golden Gods: The History of Heavy Metal. Mounted in coordination with Revolver, the exhibit will feature never-before-displayed artifacts including instruments, stage props, handwritten lyrics, clothing, and costumes, alongside original album artwork, posters, and live-performance and interview footage. The exhibit will also feature a variety of interactive displays.

Cast your vote now in these 11 fan-voted categories (Best Guitarist, presented by Epiphone®; Best Drummer, presented by Drum Workshop®; Best Vocalist, presented by Rockstar Energy Drink®; Album of the Year, presented by Marshall Amplification®; Best Live Band, presented by Samson/Zoom®; Most Metal Athlete; Comeback of the Year, presented by Eagle Rock Entertainment®; Riff Lord, presented by EMG Pickups®; Paul Gray Best Bassist, presented by Dean Markley®; Best International Band, presented by Musicians Institute®; and Most Dedicated Fans) at the Golden Gods site: GOLDENGODSAWARDS.COM. The ballots are open until April 1.
