The biggest names in hard-rock and heavy-metal gathered at Club Nokia in Los Angeles May 2, 2013, for the fifth annual Revolver Golden Gods Award Show. During the event, Revolver paid tribute to some of the fallen heroes of the heavy-music community. Now you can watch the video below. Rest in peace.

Joey “Fingers” Lombard
The bassist of death-metal band Incantation from 2001 to 2006, Lombard committed suicide in January at the age of 42. Incantation drummer Kyle Severn said, “Joey was one of the nicest people you could ever meet.”

Nicole Bogner
The ex-vocalist of power-metal group Visions of Atlantis died of an undisclosed disease at the age of 27. The band released a statement saying, “Without Nicole, Visions of Atlantis would have never been born and her unique voice and personality were a big part of VoA.”

Robbie France
A former drummer for New Wave of British Heavy Metal pioneers Diamond Head and UFO, France died of unknown causes at the age of 53.

Mark Reale
One of the founding members of New York City heavy-metal band Riot, the guitarist died at the age of 57 due to complications with Crohn’s disease.

Jim “Lord of Loud” Marshall
The founder of Marshall Amplifications died at the age of 88. His amps are a weapon of choice of bands including Slayer, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Mastodon, Black Label Society, In Flames, Trivium, and more.

Ronnie Montrose
The guitarist not only played in hard-rock band Montrose–which also featured future solo artist and Van Halen singer Sammy Hagar–but also did session work for acts like Van Morrison. Montrose died at the age of 64 from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Richie Teeter 
The drummer for Twisted Sister and The Dictators died of esophageal cancer at the age of 61.

Adam “MCA” Yauch
Co-founder of the Beastie Boys–who helped spearhead the crossover between rap and metal with songs like ”(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (to Party!)” and “No Sleep till Brooklyn,” the latter featuring Slayer’s Kerry King on lead guitar–MCA died after years battling cancer. He was 47.

Trondr Nefas
The frontman for black-metal band Urgehal passed away at the age of 34. His bandmates said, “He died a peaceful and natural death at one of his favorite places, surrounded by woods and crystal lakes.”

Steeve Hurdle
The guitarist, who played in tech-death outfit Gorguts, notably on their seminal Obscura album, died of post-surgical complications at the age of 41.

Mark “Bam Bam” McConnell
The drummer for Sebastian Bach died on May 24.

Jon Lord
The pianist and organ player, who played with Deep Purple and Whitesnake, died at age 71 of cancer. Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello wrote on Twitter: “R.I.P. the great Jon Lord, Deep Purple’s cornerstone/keyboardist. So many great great songs and that incredible SOUND of his! Thank you.”

Tony Sly
The frontman of the punk band No Use for a Name died at the age of 41. Fat Mike of NOFX said, “One of my dearest friends and favorite songwriters has gone way too soon. Tony, you will be greatly missed.”

Mitch Lucker
The Suicide Silence vocalist died at the age of 28 due to injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. The band said, “This is completely devastating to all of us and we offer our deepest condolences to his family. Mike Scaccia
Guitarist for industrial-metal stalwarts Ministry and Texan thrashers Rigor Mortis, Mike Scaccia died at age 47 after collapsing onstage while performing with the latter band. Scaccia joined Ministry in 1989 and played on their landmark Psalm 69 album, as well as Filth Pig, Animositisomina, and 2012′s Relapse. You can contribute to the Mike Scaccia Family Fund right here.

Suicide Silence have just released more details about their special memorial show for singer Mitch Lucker, who died tragically last month from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.

The show will see the remaining members of Suicide Silence perform an extensive set featuring a different vocalist on each song.

Proceeds for the show will go to a memorial created in Lucker’s honor, which will go toward’s providing the singer’s young daughter, Kenadee, with an education. If you can’t make it out to the show, you can still donate to the fund at this location.

In the wake of Suicide Silence frontman Mitch Lucker’s recent, sudden and tragic death, the Unite The United Foundation has announced a fundraiser auction to benefit Lucker’s young daughter, Kenadee.

I See Stars have stepped in to take Suicide Silence’s spot on the tour.

In the wake of the death of Suicide Silence vocalist Mitch Lucker, I See Stars have stepped in to take over the band’s slot on the Monster Energy Outbreak Tour, which is being headlined by Asking Alexandria and also features As I Lay Dying, Memphis May Fire and Attila.

Asking Alexandria guitarist Ben Bruce issued the following update with the announcement: “Asking Alexandria guitarist Ben Bruce said the following of the situation: “First and foremost I would like to talk about a dear friend of mine who was prematurely taken from us this month. Mitch Lucker was one of the kindest and most passionate people I have ever had the pleasure of calling my friend. My thoughts are not only with his family and friends, but also with the millions of people, worldwide, who Mitch helped to mould and inspire into the people they are today. A great man was lost who’s love and passion reached all corners of the globe. As many of you know, Suicide Silence were preparing to join us on our upcoming ‘Outbreak’ Tour. Due to the devastating circumstances they will no longer be joining us physically. They will however, Mitch included, be with us in spirit. While the details of Suicide Silence vocalist Mitch Lucker’s death continue to unfold, the band has set up a memorial fund in his memory. The money will go to Lucker’s young daughter, Kenadee, for an education fund.

Mitch Lucker died November 1 due to injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. Revolver reported on his death last week here and followed up with videos of news reports about the tragedy here.

“the Orange County coroner’s office said Lucker was pronounced dead at 6:17 a.m. Thursday at UCI Medical Center in Orange County,” the reports says. “Coroner’s officials said Lucker was hospitalized after a motorcycle accident shortly before 9 p.m. Wednesday. Huntington Beach police were investigating the crash and expected to release details Thursday morning.”

Suicide Silence posted the following message on their Facebook page: “There’s no easy way to say this. Mitch passed away earlier this morning from injuries sustained during a motorcycle accident. This is completely devastating to all of us and we offer our deepest condolences to his family. He will be forever in our hearts. R.I.P. Mitchell Adam Lucker – We Love You Brother.”

Revolver has supported Lucker and Suicide Silence from the beginning, featuring them on the magazine cover and honoring them with Golden God awards. We send our condolences to all his friends, family, and fans. Rest in peace.

To say that metal can be extreme is, well, obvious. But lately, bands have been delving deeper and deeper into the darkest, most extreme recesses is metal possibility. Part of the extreme side of heavy music is the subgenre deathcore, of which Suicide Silence have been a large part. As such, the band even won a Revolver Golden God award for “Best New Talent.”  Since deathcore is, by its simplest definition, the fusing of death metal and hardcore influences, we asked Suicide Silence bassist Dan Kenny (pictured left) about his Top Five Underground Death-Metal Bands in the spirit of finding new talent.

01. Deeds of Flesh “I consider Deeds of Flesh one of my favorite bands of all time, period. They have been a band since the early ’90s with decent recognition but not as much as they should have gotten. They have seven full-lengths with a new one on the way. They have worked really hard as a band and pumped out a plethora of records for the fans. The guitarist-vocalist, Erik Lindmark, put together a record label called Unique Leader Records. That label gave fans pretty much everything a brutal death-metal fan could want. Deeds of Flesh to me has been a pioneer in the genre and I will always be thankful for them.”

02. Gorgasm ”One of the most brutal bands ever! Hailing from Indiana, Gorgasm, to me, is one of the coolest band names ever since all they really talk about is death–’Gore’–and sex–’gasm.’ Their sound is completely relentless and super brutal. I have been a fan since I first picked up their EP Stabwound Intercourse solely on the cover. I used to buy bands’ albums when I was young solely off names, album titles, and covers. It’s a little cheesy but it seemed to work, it showed me great bands. The follow-up to Stabwound Intercourse is called Bleeding Profusely that has Dave Culross of Suffocation and Malevolent Creation on drums. It is a record I would bring to a deserted island 100 percent. I love this band!”

03. Disgorge  “Considered one of the most common band names in brutal death metal, the band I am talking about is the one from San Diego, California. These guys have been brutal and disgusting sounding since they first started. Also starting in the early 9’0s in California, they tag teamed a lot with Deeds of Flesh and did plenty of shows together. I would consider them pioneers of this genre as well. This band has had plenty of lineup changes but it has never changed their sound. Completely punishing drums, plenty of blast beats, with a different approach to guitars and can slam a breakdown with the best of ‘em.”

04. Skinless  “This band is probably the most well-known on this list. They were on Relapse Records and got plenty of tours in the past. Disbanded now, but never forgotten. This band has a huge influence on me and Suicide Silence. The two albums that stick out to me most are Progression Towards Evil and Foreshadowing Our Demise. I have listened to both of those records at least four million times a piece. This band is from New York and really figured out their own style quick. They have super slammy sounding parts with their fair share of blast beats and old school-sounding death metal. Sherwood Webber, to me, had such pissed-off vocals and also was a crazy man live. I miss this band but am thankful they existed.”

05. Defeated Sanity  “Probably the newest formed band on this list, Defeated Sanity is a band that keeps getting better and better and better. The most perfect mixture of technical death-metal parts and slamming break-downy parts. This band certainly cares a lot about their craft as I heard they practice a lot and do play a good amount of shows. They have a record coming out next year on Willowtip Records and I am extremely excited for it. This is a band I think deserves more credit and fans of brutal stuff should know them and love them. They are going to be a staple band in this scene in the future for sure.”
