Frontman Sal Abruscato, who has drummed for Type O Negative and Life of Agony, commented on the lineup change:

“Due to conflicting schedules with Biohazard, Bobby Hambel is unable to tour any further with A Pale Horse Named Death. We wish Bobby and Biohazard all the great success they deserve on their upcoming release in January 2012. Eddie Heedles has been chosen as the new replacement for Bobby. Eddie is a shredding guitarist who has worked with the likes of Corey Glover (Living Colour), T.M. Stevens, Vernon Reid (Living Colour), Sekond Skyn and The White Chocolate Experience.”

In other A Pale Horse Named Death news, the band’s hometown show at the Knitting Factory will stream live tomorrow night at LiveStream.com.

Brooklyn metal’s definitive drummer, Sal Abruscato pounded out the beats on classics like Type O Negative’s Bloody Kisses and Life of Agony’s River Runs Red. Now he’s pulled a Dave Grohl, singing, playing every instrument, and writing the songs in a new outfit—and doing it way better than any drummer has a right to. The band’s debut suggests Alice in Chains at their darkest with a dose of Type O’s gothic romanticism injected into their veins. It’s hooky, heavy, and blacker than black, taking on murder (“Serial Killer”), suicide (“To Die in Your Arms”), drugs (“Pill Head”), and even more drugs (“Heroin Train,” a brutally blunt depiction of the junkie life and death). Chalk up a new classic on Abruscato’s résumé. BRANDON GEIST

Now he’s singing, playing guitar, and writing the songs for new hard-rock band A Pale Horse Named Death, who drop their debut album, And Hell Will Follow Me (SPV/Steamhammer), tomorrow. While the group’s moniker is equine in nature, Abruscato’s tastes when it comes to animal companions are decidedly serpentine, as he makes clear here.

Mexican Black King Snake
“A solid jet-black snake that derives from the desert. It is cannibalistic and feeds on rattlesnakes!”

[futureusgallerycaption id="attachment_13254" align="aligncenter" width="225" caption="Sal Abruscato's Mexican Black King snake, named Johnny Cash"]

Mexican milk snake
“Looks almost identical to the venomous Southern Coral snake and I own it.”

[futureusgallerycaption id="attachment_13257" align="aligncenter" width="225" caption="Abruscato's Mexican Milk Snake, named Ringo Snake"]

Western Diamondback Rattlesnake
“The essence of the Wild West of America.”

Mangrove Snake
“Rear fanged venomous snake that is solid black with yellow rings that screams hazardous material.”

Spitting Cobra
“Fascinates me because this venomous snake can spit venom into your eyes at 20 feet!”

The latter reference makes particular sense considering that the band is the brainchild of Sal Abruscato, the founding drummer of Type O, as well as the current skinsman for Life of Agony. Previously, we premiered A Pale Horse Names Death’s song, “To Die in Your Arms”; now we’re proud to unveil another track, “Pillhead.” Abruscato, who sings, plays every instrument, and wrote all the songs on the record, fills us in on the tune below.

REVOLVER What’s this song about?
SAL ABRUSCATO “Pill Head” is about a person who is addicted to pills, and taking pills is the only way they can deal with life. A manic depressant that won’t leave their bed and just pops pills over and over to just get by.

Which part of it did you come up with first? And what was the inspiration?
I came up with the main chorus music first, then the verse and bridge music. I had a rough melody but it all came together as I wrote the lyrics and fine-tuned it.

Was this an easy song to record?
Yes, it was easy to record… I had everything done and all we had to do was re-record it. Vocals were a bit harder, especially in the bridge.

What sort of feedback have you gotten on this song so far?
So far its been great. It’s one of our favorite songs to perform, and I am pleased on the positive feedback so far.
