Legendary Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash will be honored next month with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, announced the Hollywood Chamber Of Commerce recently. The star will fittingly be placed in front of Hard Rock Cafe on Hollywood Boulevard.
“Slash is widely considered one of the greatest rock guitarists of all time,” said Ana Martinez of the Hollywood Walk Of Fame. “We are proud to place his name among the stars on our fabled Hollywood Walk of Fame.”
Slash and singer Myles Kennedy will take part in a special acoustic set and Q&A session after the ceremony at the Hard Rock Cafe.
The guitarist released his latest album, Apocalyptic Love, on May 22.

Slash’s latest solo effort, Apocalyptic Love, sold in the neighborhood of 38,000 copies this past week, enough to land him in the No. 4 on the Billboard charts.
The follow-up to 2010′s Slash, Apocalyptic Love features a newly cemented line-up for the former Guns N’ Roses guitarist, who is joined on the album — and on his current live dates — by singer Myles Kennedy and backing band the Conspirators. Slash credits his collaborators with a lot of the success of his new album.
Myles could do whatever he wanted when he was writing his parts,” Slash recently told Guitar World. “And sometimes that even changed my parts. For instance, there’s a song on the new album called ‘No More Heroes’ that is a classic example of a 50/50 kind of collaboration between us, where I had a riff and a whole arrangement that I put together, but it was all still open to interpretation. So Myles took the chorus idea that I had and just completely raped it, and came up with a new, insanely great chorus. And that was a moment where it was like, ‘Okay, we have a good thing going.’ Because when that shit works, it makes for better music overall.”

Update: Minnesota-based radio station 93X Rocks! reports that Slash would not confirm a Velvet Revolver reunion with Scott Weiland as of this morning. Slash appeared on a morning show on the radio station, and when questioned about the reports responded, “[futureusgalleryScott's] out of his mind.” He would later add, “Maybe [futureusgalleryWeiland and Matt Sorum] know something I don’t.” We’ll keep you posted as we learn more. ABC News Radio is reporting that Velvet Revolver have official reunited with singer Scott Weiland, with the band tentatively planning to tour later in the year.
“We’ve all grown a lot,” Weiland said. “We’re able to put egos and differences and old…conflicts aside and so that’s really cool.”
The singer also revealed that he would be joining guitarist Dave Kushner and bassist Duff McKagan for a writing session sometime next week to begin work on their third studio album. He also added that the band would hit the road for a short year-end tour once Slash finishes his live commitments in support of his latest solo album, Apocalyptic Love.
“Slash’s solo album gets released [futureusgalleryon May 22] and so he’s gonna do some touring on that and then we’re gonna go and do some [futureusgalleryVelvet Revolver] shows in the later part of summer into early fall,” Weiland said.

2012 Revolver Golden God Riff Lord Award-winner Slash has a new album, Apocalyptic Love, coming out in May, and he recently released a live CD-DVD Live: Made in Stoke–24/7/11. Slash has also been busy with his new production company Slasher Films. When we interviewed the former Guns N’ Roses and current Velvet Revolver guitarist not long ago–you can read the full interview here–it seemed only fitting to get Slash to give us his top five horror movies. Here’s what he came up with.
Let the Right One in
“It’s a vampire movie that’s just one of the best horror movies I’ve seen in a long time.”
The Strangers
“I just happened on that, you know, on satellite, I guess it was, flipping through the movie channels. I had never heard of it, and I think it was probably Liv Tyler that made me catch it. You know, it’s like, we’ve known her for a while. And I was like, Ah, this movie of hers I’ve never seen. And it was just about to start, so we watched, and Perla, my wife, and I were just in bed, you know, middle of the night. And fuck, it was one of the scariest movies I’ve seen in ages. ”
The Omen
“The Omen is probably my all-time top favorite horror movie. It’s just really well written. It’s the kind of movie that sort of is a huge catalyst in what Slasher Films is all about: character driven, psychologically, genuinely scary movies, not–contrary to the name of the company–not slasher movies, not mindless dismemberment movies. Which are great to an extent, but it’s become, like, the norm for the genre now. And it’s got pretty old, you know?”
Night of the Living Dead
“When I was a kid I saw that at a drive-through with my mom, it scared the shit out of me. And that one, you know, all things considered, has had the biggest influence on what we consider slasher movies now, sort of gore movies. But being in black and white, and just the whole original concept, it was really unnerving.”
Frankenstein
“Boris Karloff is great and it’s obviously one of the classic horror stories of all time. But it was just really well done. And the moodiness of it in the town, the atmosphere of the locale is fantastic. But all the characters are great. And it’s just got that creepy old feel that still just stands the test of time.”
After it was revealed yesterday that Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi had been diagnosed with the early stages of lymphoma, members of the hard-rock and metal community have followed the Sabbath’s request to send Iommi warm thoughts. Drummer Matt Sorum has revealed that Velvet Revolver are currently auditioning Ours frontman Jimmy Gnecco. The group—which also features fellow ex–Guns N’ Roses members Slash and Duff McKagan, along with Dave Kushner—have been without a singer since the departure of Scott Weiland in 2008. In an interview with Australia’s The Vine, Sorum had this to say about Velvet Revolver’s current situation.
“Yeah, they’re at home trying out a guy right now. Their sitting in a room looking at a singer named Jimmy Gnecco. So we’ll see how that goes, and then we’ve got a couple of other ideas. It looks like Slash is going to make another album, but I’m not sure about his touring and stuff yet. So we’ll see how that goes. But we’re all open to it and interested in trying to do something together.”
The band should already have a clue as to what Gnecco can offer the band, after the singer joined the four Velvet Revolver members onstage for three songs during the Road to Recovery Benefit Concert in New York City in September. You can watch fan-filmed videos of two of the songs below.
In the same interview Sorum also commented on Guns N’ Roses’ nomination for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next year, and the possibility of the former members reforming for a night.
“It’s going to be as big of a train wreck as the Sex Pistols, Blondie, or any of those other bands,” he said. “That’s my prediction. Or Van Halen, which I don’t know if you saw that, but we were involved in that. Train wreck; it was a complete train wreck. But maybe it won’t; maybe it will be a miracle; I hope for that and put out the positive vibrations. But it’s coming up pretty quickly–that’s in March, so we’ll see.”
