Norwegian doom rockers Devil are currently in the studio recording their debut LP, Time to Repent, for a late 2011 release through the Dutch label Soulseller Records.
“I must say it sounds pretty damn vintage, and those not afraid of Devilish catchy tunes, are in for a treat,” says guitarist Stian Fossum. “Ranging from hard rock to heavy metal, and even with a very good, if we can say so, ballad, we feel that the diversity and quality of the album is really up there. It’s still not for feinschmeckers or proggers, but we’re a hard rock ‘n’ roll band, and fans of Pentagram, Black Sabbath and NWOBHM will still be our main audience. We haven’t timed the album yet, but it will clock in somewhere around 40 minutes. The next few days we’ll be doing vocals and stuff, and hopefully the mixing and mastering process will start in a couple of weeks.”
The band—which also includes Ronny Østli on drums, Thomas Ljosaak on bass, Kai Wanderås on second guitar and Joakim Trangsrud on vocals—will release a new seven-inch with two new tracks—”The Noble Savage” and “Blood is Boiling”—via Soulseller Records and can now be pre-ordered at this location. The 2011 Metalliance Tour has moved its Chicago show, scheduled to take place this Sunday, due to recent gang-related activity in the vicinity of the venue. The city imposed a seven-day hold on the venue’s operations license after a fight started in the club and spilled out into the street, resulting in a handgun being fired at least six times. No one was shot but two people involved in the fight were arrested. The show has moved to a new venue called Bada Brew but will otherwise go on as scheduled. All tickets will be honored.
The tour features Helmet, Saint Vitus, Crowbar, Kylesa, Red Fang, Howl, and Atlas Moth, who could all probably hold their own in a gang fight if they had to. Check out the remaining dates below.

When it comes to true doom metal, none come truer than Pilgrim.
One listen of Forsaken Man, the latest demo from the up-and-coming Rhode Island doom metal power trio, and it’s plainly clear: these dudes are out to crush some skulls.
Guitarist and singer Jon Rossi (who also handled bass duties on this recording) riffs and sings with sheer power, while drummer Krolg hammers away without mercy.
“Quest,” the demo’s B-side, keeps the intensity level high with an epic feel and displays not only Rossi’s songwriting abilities but also his prowess as a soulful lead guitarist, and studious Tony Iommi disciple.
Speaking of Black Sabbath (as well as old masters like Count Raven, Candlemass, Electric Wizard, Lord Vicar and Saint Vitus), there aren’t many newer bands out there that are keeping this ancient music alive and well. Fortunately, Pilgrim have landed.
