“It took a real long time to decide what we were going to do for our next record,” says frontman Tony Foresta. “We wanted to work with a label that were not only fans of the band and our music, but were willing to get behind any ridiculous idea that we could think of. Once we realized this, Nuclear Blast was the obvious choice. The Blast has been friends with the band long before doing a record was even a possibility. I feel like we’re starting off with a clean slate and decade of experience to start back up on the right track. Expect some great things in the near future from the Waste. This is only the beginning!”

“Nuclear Blast has shown their love for the Waste for years,” added drummer Dave Witte. “And when it came time for a new deal, it was a no-brainer in my eyes. Nuclear Blast all the way. We are thrilled to be included among a roster of great bands and hard-working people that love them. I can’t wait to get into that studio!”

Nuclear Blast Records USA manager Gerardo Martínez comments with the following statement: “We’ve known the Waste guys for some time and when the moment was right to bring them on board, we did not hesitate one second. They are the best and most relevant band at what they do, and a pleasure to be around… not to mention they are some of the funniest and down-to-earth people we’ve met. The excitement level for a new Municipal Waste record is at its highest and we are ready to deliver this to the masses!”

The band will be entering the studio this summer to record its fifth full-length album for a 2012 release.

While making the issue, we talked to some of the Big Four’s most heralded musicians about their favorite songs from the other bands. Today, Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante (second from right) tells us about his favorite Megadeth song.

“I’m going to say ‘The Conjuring’ . Megadeth’s drummer at the time was Gar Samuelson, and I always thought Gar threw in this jazz fusion-y kind of style to Megadeth. I always loved it. I never became close with him because he was quiet but I always enjoyed his playing. He played for the songs. And when I hear that song, ‘The Conjuring,’ it’s just so great, so well-crafted. And I think it’s one of their best songs. And I know Dave doesn’t do it anymore because he’s Christian now, but I wish he would just play it once in a while.”

REVOLVER Lars, how much attention did you pay Megadeth early on?
LARS ULRICH I don’t remember getting that into the first record, but when Peace Sells came out in ’86, it just blew me away. That was right up my alley. That literally became my favorite record for a long time. Dave would come up and play San Francisco a lot. And I would always go find him, and we would drink and do lots of drugs and sit around. For those years, ’84, ’85…me and him got over our issues really quickly at that time.

I remember at the …And Justice for All tour, we played down in Irvine Meadows , and Dave came down and hung out at the last couple shows at the Justice tour. This may have been ’89, and we just hang out. I remember actually when we finished the …And Justice for All album in L.A., in the summer of ’88, I went to some apartment and played it for him at 5 in the morning. We were sitting there, playing “Blackened” and a bunch of other stuff while we were busy keeping ourselves awake. Me and Dave had kind of a friendship and a cool thing going at that time, up through most of the ’80s.

It wasn’t until both bands started getting bigger that this whole kind of thing started happening in the press, which was really kind of different than what we had going between us. There was almost like two relationships there. The press loved the whole Megadeth-Metallica [futureusgalleryrivalry]. And I sort of think it got a life of its own. And in some way, you could argue that the thing that the press was doing about setting our bands up, eventually started kind of transcending itself into our personal relationship and probably became a big part of the fact that over the ’90s it got a little frosty at times. You know what I mean?
