In July, Metallica announced that they would be combining their love of family and passion for charity in a fun new project: a children's book titled The ABCs of Metallica. A "rhyming, illustrated history" of the band, the volume was illustrated by Michael "Kaves" McLeer and written by Howie Abrams, the latter of whom also co-wrote The Merciless Book of Metal Lists with Sacha Jenkins and Misfit Summer Camp: 20 Years on the Road With the Vans Warped Tour with Kevin Lyman. Today (November 15th), the creators and Metallica have teamed with Revolver to unveil a very special spread from the book: the two pages dedicated to "C is for Cliff."
Alongside a drawing of the late, great Metallica bassist with angel wings, the following rhyme appears:
C is for Cliff
The "Major Rager" they would say,
So mesmerizing to watch,
Every time he'd play.
Dressed in denim from head to toe,
Often with a Misfits tee,
And a wild mane of red hair
Flying around for all to see.
He played his bass like a master.
His music was a gift to all.
Among the greatest musicians in history,
Cliff Burton will forever stand tall.
Proceeds from the sales of The ABCs of Metallica will benefit the band's charity the All Within My Hands foundation, which is "dedicated to creating sustainable communities by supporting workforce education, the fight against hunger, and other critical local services."
You can pre-order the book via Amazon and Barnes & Noble, as well as Metallica's official website including a bundle that features a copy along with either a children's or adult-sized T-shirt. Packages are expected to ship out November 26th, just in time for holiday gift-giving.
