Actor Jason Momoa Says Tool, Metallica's 'Kill 'Em All' Inspired Aquaman

"Aquaman's pretty metal ... I kind of build my characters off of metal songs"

Actor Jason Momoa's inescapable good looks and enormous stature has given him easy access to some of the most "metal" roles in modern cinema and television: he played Conan the Barbarian in the 2011 remake of the Arnold Schwarzenegger classic, brutal leader Khal Drago on season one of Game of Thrones, and now his next role sees him take on DC Comics character Aquaman for a film of the same name, due out December 21st.

Momoa opened up about his metalhead tendencies in an interview with Metal Hammer, telling the publication, "Aquaman's pretty metal. I know no one thinks that, but Aquaman's metal. I kind of build my characters off of metal songs." He goes on to cite specific character and their inspirational bands, including one of his noted favorites, Metallica: "Conan was really heavy Pantera, I'd say Aquaman was probably mostly built out of Tool and Kill 'Em All. [Tool song] 'Ticks and Leeches,' if I want to get specific. There's a lot of Sabbath in there, too."

While it's unsure if Momoa's tastes in heavy music will carry over to the soundtrack, the film's score composer R. Gregson Williams confirmed that fans will be able to hear for themselves a week ahead of the movie's U.S. release. Check out the soundtrack when it's out December 14th.
