Children of Bodom Announce Beer Brewed Using Water From Lake Bodom

New lager is perfect for "socializing, dinner, headbanging or lakeside camping," according to band

Children of Bodom are the latest band to jump into the heavy-metal craft beer game, and they've chosen to use water straight from the source of their name, Lake Bodom, with which to brew their signature intoxicant. Lake Bodom Pre-Prohibition Lager is a 5% ABV beverage that will be released in the group's native Finland on February 1st, just a few short weeks ahead of the band's next album Hexed

Lake Bodom is also the location of one of the most gruesome criminal mysteries in Finnish history, the Lake Bodom Murders. In 1960, two teenage couples were camping near the lake when an unknown attacker stabbed and beat three of them to death, with the fourth victim found just outside the tents severely injured. Several suspects were named in the case, including the survivor at the scene, Nils Wilhelm Gustafsson, but none were ever definitively found guilty and the case remains unsolved.

Despite the grisly history of CoB's name and the lake itself, the band made a subtle reference to murders in their statement about the lager, noting not only its "roasted malts and the noble Tettnanger hop," but also that it could be perfect for "socializing, dinner, headbanging or lakeside camping." The beer was created in partnership with Fat Lizard Brewing Co., based in the band's hometown of Espoo.

While fans on this side of the Atlantic can't take part in the drinking quite yet, Children of Bodom did recently release a ripper of a single titled "Under Grass And Clover." Get your fix with that track and video here and catch them on their upcoming tour starting March 13th in Quebec.
