The end of summer marks the beginning of horror season for serious connoisseurs, and Italian progressive-rock outfit Claudio Simonetti's Goblin will return to North America just in time to perform the classic score to 1977 supernatural horror film Suspiria alongside live screenings of the film.
The group is an offshoot of the original Goblin, well known for being frequent collaborators with giallo auteur Dario Argento during prolific periods in their respective careers, starting with Profondo Rosso in 1975. Goblin's music appears in other Argento classics such as Phenomena and Zombi, with keyboardist Claudio Simonetti returning solo for the final installment of the "three mothers" trilogy (which includes Suspiria and 1980's Inferno), 2007's The Mother of Tears.
The tour will coincide with the November 2nd release of the forthcoming Suspiria remake, directed by Luca Guadagnino and scored by Radiohead's Thom Yorke. That film will premiere at the 75th Venice International Film Festival on September 1st. In the meantime, fans can at least take comfort in knowing it will be possible to view the original with a unique and fantastic live performance at the following dates.
