Brendan Murphy is the singer for Canadian metalcore act Counterparts, whose latest album You're Not You Anymore was released in 2017.

It should be no surprise to the people that follow this band that we love Japan. Since our first time there about 5 years ago, we treat any opportunity we have to go as a vacation. It's without a doubt our favourite place to tour. There's nothing that we don't like about it. Whether you're dealing with the people, the shows, the food, the nightlife, etc it all has a very special vibe … a vibe that would be hard to recreate anywhere else on Earth. At least anywhere that we have visited.

Since the first time that Koba from Bloodaxe touring brought us to Japan in 2013, we knew we wanted to be regular visitors. Koba took a huge chance bringing over a small Canadian metalcore band and for that we owe him all of our new found success in the country.

Japan leaves a mark on you whether you physically bring home any souvenirs or not … For example, it has spawned our addiction to things like claw machine games and private room karaoke. I think that the best way for someone to learn about the culture is to go and experience it for yourself. I promise you won't regret it.

A massive thank you to all of our Japanese fans but just know that we will be visitors to your country long after Counterparts has come and gone.
