'Doctor Sleep': See Haunting New Trailer for Stephen King's 'The Shining' Sequel

Grown-up Danny Torrance, played by Ewan McGregor, still plagued by old terrors in new installment

It's been nearly 40 years since Stephen King's chilling tale of isolation, haunting and madness hit the big screen with the Stanley Kubrick-directed masterpiece The Shining. King updated fans with his 2013 sequel novel Doctor Sleep, and now audiences will finally get to see what became of the young Danny Torrance and his special aptitude for seeing diabolical things when director Mike Flanagan's feature film opens in theaters this fall.

Today, June 13th, we get a little taste of what's coming with the arrival of Doctor Sleep's first trailer. The clip picks up with Danny (played by actor Ewan McGregor), now nearly his own father's age at the time of the first film, as he begins to experience visions similar to the ones that plagued him as a child: most notably the horrifying word that haunted his childhood: Redrum. The teaser spins out from there, showing Danny befriending a young girl that shares his same uncanny gifts and offering creepy-as-hell glimpses into several otherworldly scenes.

Like the original, the score heard in the background relies heavily on a lumbering tuba part that imparts a looming terror at every turn. Flashes of the 1980 film remind the viewer of Danny's traumatic experience at the Overlook Hotel, setting the stage for a similar terror to reappear.

Directed and adapted for the screen by Mike Flanagan and produced by Trevor Macy and Jon Berg, check out Doctor Sleep when it hits theaters on November 8th.
