Enter World of Murderous Cult in Chilling Trailer for Netflix Horror Film 'Apostle'

Charismatic prophet leads followers into madness and blood sacrifices

In just under a month on October 12th, Netflix will add to its streaming services the Lovecraftian horror Apostle, the tale of a charismatic prophet uses his charms to turn his cult of followers into monsters of his own design. At the helm is Welsh director Gareth Evans, best known for his directorial work on the "Safe Haven" clip in the 2013 thriller V/H/S/2 and The Raid action movie series.

The film takes place in London at the turn of the 20th century. Protagonist Thomas Richardson returns home from a journey to find his sister has been kidnapped for ransom by a murderous religious sect on an island, where members of the cult are attempting to escape the corruption they believe exists in mainstream society. Unbeknownst to these brainwashed followers, their leader Prophet Malcolm is a malevolent man hellbent on "cleansing evil" from those he sees unfit through violent sacrificial practices and rituals. As Richardson infiltrates the cult, he learns madness is only the surface of the island group's dangerous existence.

Apostle will see a world premiere at this month's Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas, before its streaming debut on Netflix. Check the film's official site for more information.
