'Game of Thrones' Season 8 Premiere Announced, Video Teaser Revealed

Gripping final episodes to fantasy epic are right around the corner

HBO has finally announced the premiere month for its massively popular show Game of Thrones, based off the George R.R. Martin book series A Song of Ice and Fire, as April 2019. Using the hashtag #ForTheThrone, the network has released a teaser highlighting bits of each lead character's story over the previous seven seasons in an attempt to clarify the narrative that will see the show through its finale. Beginning with the dramatic quote from Cersei Lannister, "When you play the games of thrones, you win or you die," the montage follows the struggles for power and individual challenges and betrayals, hinting at the bloodshed to come as the action winds down in this final battle.

Though the show is ending, headway has been made on producing spinoffs that will expand on stories in the GOT universe. HBO tapped screenwriter Jane Goldman for the first of the projects, set to take place thousands of years prior to the events chronicled in the current series and spill details on the genesis of the chilling White Walker characters.

No specific date has been announced, but information will be posted to the show's official interactive site as it's released, alongside viewer guides, cast information and links to catch up on past seasons.
