Jesse Draxler: Watch Doc on Acclaimed Artist Behind Chelsea Wolfe, Deafheaven Visuals

Colorblind artist reveals key role of music in his process

Jesse Draxler is an intriguing visual artist known for his visceral, paint-smeared black-and-white collages, who has done work for a host of clients ranging from Valley Eyewear and 3 Floyds Brewery to musicians such as Chelsea Wolfe, Zola Jesus, Deafheaven and the Black Queen, Dillinger Escape Plan singer Greg Puciato's electronic band. Music plays a deep role in his creative process, helping him to tap into the "feeling" of a project. In the impressionistic short documentary above — produced by NYC's Convicts — he talks about that process, including how his colorblindness and constant self-doubt play into his work.
