Jonathan Davis' forthcoming debut solo album, Black Labyrinth, was largely inspired by the Ganzfeld Experiment, a form of sensory deprivation used to test psychic abilities (a.k.a. ESP). To celebrate the record's release, the Korn frontman is giving 20 lucky fans the opportunity to undergo the experiment in Seal Beach, California, on May 25th — and what's more, he'll be leading the trippy experience himself.
Davis offered an overview of what to expect from the pop-up Ganzfeld trials in a recent Ticketmaster UK interview. "If you deprive yourself of visual and audible stimulus, you'll start to hallucinate," he said. "You cut a ping-pong ball in half, and put these white globes over your eyes, and you listen to white noise, after twenty minutes you start to hallucinate. Every experience is different, but the brain can't handle not hearing or seeing anything." He stresses that the experiments meant to be entertaining, rather than overly serious.
"I wanted something different, and to be more immersive," Davis concluded. "I think I've pretty much pulled that off now."
