If you happened to be watching the rock portion of the Grammys webcast on January 28th of this year when Mastodon won the award for Best Metal Performance, you might've noticed a key member of the band was absent from the lineup. Today, guitarist and vocalist Brent Hinds took to Instagram to reveal why he was missing in action from the ceremony, in gruesome, visual detail.

His post was in part to promote the movie Hellbound which apparently he plays guitar on. He revealed that he was working on the soundtrack around the time of the Grammy ceremony, and that he was "involved in a hit and run on my motorcycle that ended me up in [horse emoji] pistola."

He then went onto playfully dig at his bandmates, saying "I got absolutely NO shout out from my best friends/band mates [heartemoji] ..I know they love me and just be havin stupid nervousness, but still!"

The photos in his Instagram gallery below are pretty gnarly, but we're all glad he's back to being in good health.
