See Ballerina Become Possessed in Unsettling New 'Suspiria' Remake Teaser Video

Chilling clip previews unearthly horror that awaits young dancer played by Dakota Johnson

Last week, cinephiles got a glimpse of what to expect from the forthcoming Luca Guadignino adaptation of Dario Argento's 1977 Italian horror film Suspiria. Now the release of the first clip from the film establishes a more cohesive visual narrative of how the terrifying story of distinguished dance students and supernatural conspiracy will unfold in the modern retelling.

The scene features Tilda Swinton as Madame Blanc requesting the students work on a piece regarding "rebirth," selecting Suzy (played by Dakota Johnson) to take place at the center of the dance. "I'm interested in your instincts here," Blanc tells Suzy, before cueing the action. While the other girls begin to move about loosely and expressively, Suzy becomes stiff and spasmodic as though her body is possessed by an external malicious force. Blanc circles the girl, enraptured by the "performance" and the clip flashes to a horrifying image of the hand seemingly directing Suzy's motions. Critics who watched a preview of the film reported having intense physical and psychological reactions when watching previews, and the uncomfortable clip showcases precisely why.

Suspiria hits theaters in New York and Los Angeles October 26th, with a wider release on on November 2nd.
