Corey Taylor surprised fans in December when he shared a cryptic look at his "new face" aka the latest incarnation of the famous performance mask he wears while performing in Slipknot. While no final look is available, the singer shared some behind-the-scenes shots on Instagram of what went into creating the mask with renowned horror costumer Tom Savini along with artist Petra Burkhalter and WWE wardrobe technician Jason Baker.
"Since I can't show you the mask yet... here's what we go through to have them made," says Taylor in the caption. "So killer working with @thetomsavini @bakingjason and @necrodisco good people!" The photos show a flesh-colored cap that extends across the frontman's forehead and cascades down his neck to cover his hair. Picture three shows him with a breathing tube in his mouth in preparation for the events of the fourth photo, where his face is covered in a foamy, grotesque material that will presumably become another ghastly look in Taylor's repertoire.
Taylor outlined a bit about the mask last week on Dean Delray's Let There Be Talk podcast, telling the host he, "got a little more hands-on and exploratory with what I wanted to say visually" this time around. Slipknot's have been in the studio on and off for months working on their next album, tentatively scheduled for release this summer. The record's first single, "All Out Life," was a surprise release on Halloween 2018.
