See Jean Grey's Fiery Origin Story in Grim New X-Men 'Dark Phoenix' Trailer

Latest installment of Marvel Comics film franchise might be its most sinister storyline yet

Coming to theaters in February 2019 is the long-awaited follow up to 2016's X-Men: Apocalypse. This time around, the story will focus in on the telepathic and telekinetic fire-wielding mutant Jean Grey, a character whose history is one wrought with near-death experiences, unrequited love, and a wavering loyalty to the heroic efforts of the X-Men to prevent harm whenever possible. The trailer for the film, Dark Phoenix, received a global premiere last night on The Late Late Show With James Cordon.

In the trailer, Grey (played by Sophie Turner) arrives at the X-Mansion as a child to address estate owner and X-Man of the house himself Charles Francis Xavier (James McAvoy). When the young girl asks Xavier, "You think you can fix me?" the professor responds firmly, "You are not broken."

The menacing atmosphere of Grey's internal turmoil between staying true to the righteous path and giving in to her darker desires and drives is soundtracked by a foreboding cover of the famous Doors' song "The End," foreshadowing a potentially deadly conclusion to one of the darkest stories in the Marvel universe.
