Crack the Skye is arguably the most narratively ambitious Mastodon album to date. If you don't remember, it features an astral-projecting paraplegic who travels through space and time, talking to spirits, burning umbilical cords, and hanging out with Russian occultists, all presented as an homage to drummer Brann Dailor's sister Skye, who committed suicide at age 14.

In other words, it was … a lot! And it's also already been 10 years since its momentous release. That fact is hammered home by the Atlanta quartet's decision to embark on an anniversary tour to commemorate one of the strangest and greatest records in their career — the group is currently on the North American leg of that trek, alongside like-minded cosmic prog-rockers Coheed and Cambria. Mastodon recently showed off some of the visuals they'll be projecting during that run, and they're the exact blend of grimdark psychedelia you're hoping for.
