See 'The Walking Dead' Tease Rick Grimes' Exit in Tense New Season 9 Trailer

Long-running zombie apocalypse series prepares for serious shake-ups

In the latest trailer for season 9 of the popular post-apocalyptic zombie television series The Walking Dead, viewers get a glimpse into the impending exit of one of the show's main characters, Rick Grimes. While it remains unknown if Grimes will be killed off or simply leave the show's narrative, the clip finally addresses head-on the confirmed exit of actor Andrew Lincoln in the introduction shot, touting "Rick Grimes' Final Episodes."

This trailer contains mostly the same footage introduced to fans earlier this summer at San Diego Comicon, but the intro and some fleshed out scenes shed light on what to expect after the 18-month time jump into season 9. The small survivor society is struggling to rebuild and instigate new rules and ethics a year and a half after the end of the war in season 8. A key moment of insight comes when Grimes and Daryl face one another in tense conversation. Daryl asks "Are we on the same side, Rick?" to which Grimes answers, "Well you tell me."

Watch The Walking Dead when it returns to AMC on October 7th to find out the fate of Alexandria's leader.
