Earlier this week, Lionsgate confirmed that we'd be getting the first trailer of their new-look Hellboy film, starring David Harbour (of Stranger Things fame) in the titular role. After an preemptive leak and some internal panicking, here it is in its full glory.
This version of Hellboy intends to be a little darker, and more sardonic, than the relatively jovial, high-fantasy interpretation we saw in the Guillermo del Toro movies. (The point of comparison a lot of people are making is Deadpool.) We also know that series creator Mike Mignola isn't taking a hands-on role with this film, like he did with the character's original debut on the big screen.
Lionsgate has some big shoes to fill given how beloved Ron Perlman's portrayal of the character is, but between Harbour and director Neil Marshall, the studio certainly seems up to the challenge. Watch the trailer above.
