In yet another chapter of "Soundcloud rappers being secret metalheads," noted Canadian troubadour Nardwuar tracked down Lil Uzi Vert in Vancouver to present him with his usual bounty of gifts. For the uninitiated, Nardwuar is famous for the studious researching he does before every interview, which occasionally throws some of his guests off. (For a great example, check out this clip of him stunning Pharrell Williams with a copy of one of his earliest singles.)
Things follow suit in this latest video. Nardwuar gives Lil Uzi an old GG Allin poster, (to which he responds by calling himself the reincarnation of the outsider-punk icon,) but the best part comes at the end, when the rapper is presented with a poster for the bloody, Rob Zombie–directed classic The Devil's Rejects.
Uzi shrieks in excitement, and then gets really paranoid. "Let me tell you something. Why did you pull this out? I really like this movie! How did you know this? ... I'm glad that I'm a good guy because if I was under investigation for something I'd be scared right now. How did you know that?"
Nardwuar responds by naming Philadelphia DJ Guns Garcia (who the internet has determined is an old flame of Uzi's,) which prompts the rapper to say, "I can't do this," before storming out of the interview.
It's a hilarious sequence, and truly one of the all-time great ersatz Nardwuar interviews of all time. We appreciate learning more about Lil Uzi Vert's metalhead past (and present), and hope he wasn't freaked out too badly by Nardwuar's omnipotence.
