Watch Tense Trailer for 'Green Room' Director's Grisly New Movie 'Hold the Dark'

Hardcore-kid-turned movie maker Jeremy Saulnier’s new film features Jeffrey Wright ('Westworld'), Alexander Skarsgård ('True Blood')

In 2015, director Jeremy Saulnier released punk-rock horror-thriller Green Room, a movie that followed around a young hardcore band trapped in a titular green room as they uncovered a murder-plot surrounding a white-supremacist gang. It was a grisly affair, building on the violence he brought to previous film Blue Ruin.

Now, he's returned with new film Hold the Dark that appears to continue cultivating the brutality of his previous work with no sign of the bloodlust ending. The film centers around a pack of wolves that kill a young boy, and the mother (Riley Keough, Mad Max: Fury Road) who tasks a tracker (Jeffrey Wright, Westworld) to hunt and take revenge for her child. When the boy's father (Alexander Skarsgård, True Blood) returns home after being in the Middle East things seem to turn sinister as some strange elements of mysticism come into play.

Hold the Dark is scheduled for release via Netflix on September 28th.
