Dream Theater's John Petrucci Announces Solo Tour With Mike Portnoy on Drums

Prog-metal shredder playing first-ever solo headlining dates later this fall
John Petrucci Mike Portnoy split

Back in 2020, Dream Theater guitarist John Petrucci released his second solo album, Terminal Velocity. Obviously, given that it dropped smack dab in the middle of the pandemic, the prog-metal wiz didn't have a chance to tour on it upon its release, and by the time touring returned in 2021, he had Dream Theater duties to fulfill. Now, at long last, Petrucci will have the opportunity to showcase those new songs live during his first ever solo headlining tour, set to go down later this year.

What's more, Petrucci has tapped his former Dream Theater bandmate, Mike Portnoy, to drum during his set, and he's bringing along renowned bassist and longtime collaborator, Dave LaRue, to hold down bass duties.

So far, he's only announced three shows — one in Boston on October 7th, a NYC gig on October 13th and a show in D.C. on October 15th. However, the press release indicates that the tour will be running throughout October and November of this year, so fans should expect more dates to be announced in the near future.

For now, tickets for those three gigs will go live Friday July 15th at Petrucci's official website. Peep the routing below.
