Here at Revolver, we're always on the hunt for new songs to bang our heads to — indeed, it's a big part of our jobs. Spiritbox - "Circle With Me"
The Canadian trio's first offering of 2021 resides on the heavy, djenty side of their singular spectrum. Courtney LaPlante's vaporous clean vocals have only continued to improve, but not at the expense of the ferocious growl she's been unleashing since her Iwrestledabearonce days. Her equally talented bandmates provide the perfect musical backdrop on the beaming "Circle With Me."
At the Gates - "Spectre of Extinction"
Not only did At the Gates basically invent the Gothenburg style of melodic death metal, but they're also still making it sound vital 30 years into their career. "Spectre of Extinction" adds a dash of prog to their time-tested formula and it fucking whips.
Frank Carter & the Rattlesnakes - "My Town ft. Joe Talbot"
Frank Carter and Idles frontman Joe Talbot are two of England's foremost punk-rock rascals, and their new joint track brings the cartoonishly riled-up energy you'd expect to hear when these two are in the same room.
SeeYouSpaceCowboy - "Painting a Clear Picture From a Unreliable Narrator"
Remember Drop Dead, Gorgeous? Remember From Autumn to Ashes? Remember the Devil Wears Prada's early stuff? SeeYouSpaceCowboy are doing that for 2021 eardrums — hand-clap mosh cues and all.
Red Fang - "Funeral Coach"
Both of the singles from Red Fang's upcoming album, Arrows, have been damn good. "Funeral Coach" is the more metallic of the two, and it sees Portland's premier stoner-rock miscreants layering their signature fuzz over some interesting rhythmic patterns.
Vildhjarta - "när de du älskar kommer tillbaka från de döda"
You don't need to understand this song's absurdly long Swedish title to appreciate its virtuosic grooves. It's been nearly a decade since the Hudiksvall prog-metal unit released their djenre-defining (see what we did there?) opus, Måsstaden, but they're back and brilliant as ever on this mystifying new banger.
Pillars of Ivory - "Leviticus"
This trio — comprised of Mindforce vocalist Jason Petagine, Death Threat frontman Aaron Butkus and Age of Apocalypse guitarist Jack Xiques — make bouncy NYHC that's laced with old-school hip-hop samples and presented in mixtape form. It's like if Beastie Boys, Ol' Dirty Bastard and Trapped Under Ice formed a supergroup, and "POI keep smoking cause we're born to die" is their badass mantra.
Cold Cave - "Prayer From Nowhere"
Cold Cave is American Nightmare vocalist Wes Eisold's long-running solo project, and the latest preview from his first album in 10 years, Fate in Seven Lessons, is another reliable slice of heartfelt darkwave. It's got affecting vocals, clattering drum machines, steamy synths and a downright gorgeous guitar lead.
Gojira - "Sphinx"
Gojira's new album, Fortitude, is chockfull of bangers, but for our money, "Sphinx" takes the cake. A throwback to the full-bore crushing sound of the band's breakthrough album, From Mars to Sirius, it boasts massive grooves and those signature scrapes — plus some epic melodies that speak to Joe Duplantier and Co.'s current state of evolution.
Cane Hill - "Blood and Honey: Part 1"
Nu-metalcore's reigning champs have yet to let us down. The NOLA band's latest single has got it all: a bouncy riff, a swaggering chorus, a shreddy solo and a choppy breakdown. Bring on part two.
