Here at Revolver, we're always on the hunt for new songs to bang our heads to — indeed, it's a big part of our jobs. With that in mind, here are the tracks released this week in metal, hard rock and hardcore that have been on heavy rotation at Revolver HQ. For your listening pleasure, we've also compiled the songs in a Spotify playlist, which will grow each week.

Sunn O))) - "Frost (C)"
As if one new album this year wasn't enough, the priests of amplifier destruction Sunn O))) are set to release a new record, Pyroclasts, later this month. Its new single, "Frost (C)," feels like a throwback to the band's roots and those walls of sound you could get lost in. When the guitar hits you're immediately engulfed in a sea of noise and feedback. Then the fun begins as the band subtly moves and shifts tones to inject the song with a tangible, and eerie, sense of emotion. Its ten-minute runtime allows the guys plenty of space to explore a vast soundscape of beautiful heaviness.

Life of Agony - "Black Heart"
Life of Agony will always be lords of writing super gritty alternative metal that both shreds and gets stuck in your head. Their latest single "Black Heart" is an eighteen-wheeler of a song, trucking along with a huge and heavy riff that keeps gaining power. Singer Mina Caputo steers the big rig with ease, shifting between a kind of mysterious vocal delivery in the song's verses and exploding into full-on sing-along mode when the chorus hits. These vets are still killing it, and their upcoming record The Sound of Scars is on track to be a ripper.

Cattle Decapitation - "Bring Back the Plague"
Your favorite vegan death-grinders Cattle Decapitation love to merge their vicious metal with scathing social critiques — and their latest material is no exception. New single "Bring Back the Plague," off their upcoming album Death Atlas, takes aim squarely at climate deniers and those who don't care about the earth. Twisting and groovy riffs pave the way for angry-as-fuck growls about how humanity is better off going extinct than taking down the rest of the planet. But if it is all going to hell, with "Bring Back the Plague" as a soundtrack we're definitely going out with a bang and not a whimper.

Poppy - "I Disagree"
It's always been hard to pin down whatever the hell it is that Poppy does — but her recent streak of metal tracks are most welcomed. The singer's latest song, "I Disagree," is a vibey jam that has her calling out an unknown figure for not being there for her or being receptive. Poppy's vocal approach — moving between sugary and completely fried — keeps things interesting, as the pummeling detuned guitars weave in and out of the mix. It's sweet, heavy and totally bonkers.

Gatecreeper - "Deserted"
Straight-up, Gatecreeper crush. It's been a minute since the Arizona crew dropped a full-length, but Deserted makes up for lost time with its total sonic domination. The album's title-track is a thing to behold, offering a slowly paced but utterly sinister death-metal intro that lets the riffs just stack up. As the band continues their march through the fray things start to pick up, eventually going into a hardcore punk pace that's a jolt to the brain. It's a chaotic and gnarly opening to a powerhouse of an album.

Vatican - "Sole Impulse"
Today's metallic hardcore almost seems like an arms race to see who can unleash the heaviest track on the planet. With "Sole Impulse," Vatican make it clear: they've come to drop bombs. The Georgia crew's latest single is built upon a machine-gun-like heavy chord that hits harder and harder each time it appears. As the track progresses, there's flourishes of different instrumentation at play: dipping slightly into progressive metal territory — but mostly just sticking to total destruction.
