Here at Revolver, we're always on the hunt for new songs to bang our heads to — indeed, it's a big part of our jobs. With that in mind, here are the tracks released this week in metal, hard rock and hardcore that have been on heavy rotation at Revolver HQ. For your listening pleasure, we've also compiled the songs in a Spotify playlist, which will grow each week.

Lucifer - "Ghosts"
Giving us smooth evil with a classic-rock bent, Lucifer are back with their dark, soulful musings on "Ghosts." Sounding somewhere between early Heart and vintage Coven, the filthy retro riffing and soft, haunting crooning make for easy listening with an edge, like slow dancing on the blade of Satan's knife in a hazy, heavy dream.

Orthodox - "Look at Me"
Some of the best parts of nu-metal hinged on certain bands' ability to be crunchy, groovy, and devastatingly heavy all at once. Nu-metal-bred Nashville upstarts Orthodox take those attributes and inject them straight into the veins of "Look at Me," a hulking song filled with varying textures to span the breadth of the heavy-music spectrum, from death metal to hardcore and beyond.

Envy - "A Faint New World"
Shoegazing metal acts like Alcest and Deafheaven owe heaps of inspiration to Japanese greats Envy, whose pioneering blackened atmospheric approach informs many of the gargantuan creations similar bands have created in their wake. With their latest offering "A Faint New World," the band's nearly 30 years of experience and growth is on full display as they somersault through discordant passages of chaos then cycle back into abyssal serenity with practiced ease.

Drug Church - "Bliss Out"
Drug Church waste no time packing a hearty punch with the sub-two-minute banger "Bliss Out." Calling up punk riffs of yore without pulling back on the buried screams, the cut's best virtues arrive via virulent staccato hooks and cathartic, shouting rage. Listen closely for expertly placed samples that add layers of interest amid the straightforward momentum.

In This Moment – "The In-Between"
On the lead single off In This Moment's forthcoming new album, Mother, Maria Brink struggles with the "holy war within," the challenge to rectify the "angel" she's supposed to be with the "little hell" she knows she can unleash. Veering between raspy spoken word, pillow-talk cooing and distorted howls, her vocals express the clash of her split personalities. Likewise, the music captures ITM's own fractious elements: metal, pop, electronic music and more slam together for a strange and compelling ride.

Hexvessel - "Demian"
Led by Grave Pleasure's Mat McNerney, Hexvessel lean hard on an opiate-induced, soulful groove with the heavy-lidded "Demian." Equally sexy and foreboding, the tune would fit perfectly in a Seventies occult exploitation film during some pivotal scene where Satan seduces a beautiful young maiden. Listen if you love Zeppelin at their sultriest during the peak of Jimmy Page's heroin-rock years.
