Here at Revolver, we're always on the hunt for new songs to bang our heads to — indeed, it's a big part of our jobs. With that in mind, here are the tracks released this week in metal, hard rock and hardcore that have been on heavy rotation at Revolver HQ. For your listening pleasure, we've also compiled the songs in a Spotify playlist, which will grow each week.

Moon Destroys - "Blue Giant (featuring Troy Sanders of Mastodon)"
Moon Destroys are a spacey psych-rock duo featuring current and former members of Torche, Killer be Killed and Royal Thunder. The lead single off their forthcoming EP, Maiden Voyage, takes off into Gojira-esque sci-fi territory, imagining giant whales swimming through the galaxy. That the mesmerizing cut features guest vocals from fellow psychonaut Troy Sanders, of Mastodon fame, makes perfect sense.

Kvelertak - "Fanden ta dette hull!"
Instead of the raucous party-smashing kineticism Kvelertak are known and loved for, the Norwegian ragers' latest single struts and sneers with a cool, laidback, IDGAF attitude. That is, before it erupts into a full-on thrash-out around the four-minute mark. We can only imagine that the "smiling skeleton" who inspired the song would be proud.

Hatebreed - "When the Blade Drops"
It may have taken four years for the blade to drop, but damn, it was worth it. With this week's full-on mosher, the Connecticut-based hardcore heroes serve a slice so brutal that only two minutes is required. Frontman Jamey Jasta said of the song, "We're definitely going hard on this one. The speed, intensity, and brutality that people have come to expect from us is on full display." Indeed.

Me and That Man - "By the River (featuring Ihsahn)"
Behemoth bandleader Nergal and Emperor frontman Ihsahn take on the blues with this standout cut from New Man, New Songs, Same Shit, Vol. 1 — and do so brilliantly."I remember sending a song to Vegard. He was interested, but he was like, 'Man, don't know if I can do it.'" Nergal told Revolver in his first interview about the new record. "Two weeks later I'm receiving the tracks, and it's just blowing my mind out completely, because behold, Ihsahn from Emperor singing fucking blues as if he's done it all his life."

Helfró - "Afeitrun"
Black metal is, of course, most associated with Norway, but when it comes to grim desolation and freezing moons, Iceland has much to offer, too. Helfró hail from that ice-ridden country and channel all its frost-bitten harshness into "Afeitrun," a beautifully tremolo-tortured cut that the duo aptly describe as "an odyssey into the boundless and bare wastelands of cold and despair."

John Dolmayan - "Starman (featuring Serj Tankian)"
System of a Down's John Dolmayan enlisted his SOAD bandmate Serj Tankian for this explosive cover of the David Bowie classic, "Starman," and the results are more imaginative and reinventive than the drummer's first solo single: a riffed-up take on Radiohead's "Street Spirit" featuring guests M. Shadows and Tom Morello. Tankian's speedy, unique vocal style makes this rendition particularly trippy, adventurous and badass.
