Here at Revolver, we're always on the hunt for new songs to bang our heads to — indeed, it's a big part of our jobs. With that in mind, here are the tracks released this week in industrial-metal, deathcore, black-metal and more that have been on heavy rotation at Revolver HQ. For your listening pleasure, we've also compiled the songs in an ever-evolving Spotify playlist.
3Teeth - "Merchant of the Void"
At long last, 3Teeth have returned, and just when we needed their apocalyptic, incendiary industrial-metal most. "Merchant of the Void" sounds like it would be pounding through the walls of a rave warehouse while AI drone warriors decimate the land outside its doors. It's utterly gigantic and over-the-top in the best way possible, and with assistance from DOOM composer Mick Gordon, 3Teeth sound unstoppable.
Bring Me the Horizon - "LosT"
Following "DiE4u" and "sTraNgeRs," "LosT" is the third Bring Me the Horizon single in a row that shamelessly channels the eye-lined pop-punk sound of the early 2000s. It's also by far the best of the three. "The next time that I open up to someone will be my autopsy," Oli Sykes quips, knowing that those words will be scribbled in school notebooks by the week's end. Essentially a spiritual cross between My Chemical Romance and 100 gecs (that glitchy, auto-tuned breakdown is the shit!), this is BMTH at their best; simultaneously pissing off metal's old guard and lobotomizing hooks into your noggin.
Blackbraid - "Moss Covered Bones on the Altar of the Moon"
Blackbraid writes songs that make you want to run through the woods on all fours, leap on top of rocks and howl wolfishly into the wind. The one-man black-metal project of Indigenous musician Sgah'gahsowá broke onto the scene with last year's excellent Blackbraid I LP, and in advance of its second helping, Blackbraid II, we've been gifted "Moss Covered Bones on the Altar of the Moon" — a mouthful of a title for a 14-minute mouthful of a song. Epic, atmospheric, dirge-y and crushing, it lives up to its telegraphed scope.
Boris x Uniform - "You Are the Beginning"
Boris don't rest. The Japanese noise-metal vets dropped three albums last year, but they haven't released a collaborative record since 2020's 2R0I2P0 with Merzbow. That all changes next month when Boris and NYC noise-makers Uniform unveil their new joint project, Bright New Disease. If it sounds anything like lead single "You Are the Beginning," we're sold. Somewhere between post-My War-era Black Flag and blackened, hell-horse thrash, this track is a total ass-kicker that keeps you at the edge of your seat the whole way through.
Poppy - "Spit" (Kittie cover)
Let's face it, a lot of lyrics from the nu-metal era haven't aged very well. "Why do I get shit all the time/From you men/You are swine/You think dick is the answer/But its not," on the other hand, has aged like fine wine, and Poppy clearly resonated with this fierce feminist anthem from Kittie's 1999 debut. The post-genre artist's industrialized, heavy-as-fuck makeover is the gnarliest thing Poppy has released in a couple years, and like all the best cover songs, it retains the recognizable aspects of the original while also putting her very own spin on it.
Left to Suffer - "Artificial Anatomy" (Feat. Kim Dracula)
Kim Dracula is popping up everywhere these days. The post-genre TikTok star enlisted Korn's Jonathan Davis for a scat-laden single earlier this year, and in a couple months, they'll be opening the first leg of Avenged Sevenfold's long-awaited North American tour. But this week, Dracula went deathcore, guesting on Left to Suffer's torrential pit anthem, "Artificial Anatomy," and lending the song some of their deranged, Patton-esque babbles — which fit surprisingly well in between lurching deathcore chugs.
