Here at Revolver, we're always on the hunt for new songs to bang our heads to — indeed, it's a big part of our jobs. With that in mind, here are the tracks released this week in metal, hard rock and hardcore that have been on heavy rotation at Revolver HQ. Chelsea Wolfe - "The Mother Road"
Chelsea Wolfe's first single from her forthcoming album Birth of Violence, "The Mother Road," is a return to her more folk-driven side, and a considerable departure from the electric onslaught found in her previous 2017 record Hiss Spun. Sounding like she's been sequestered on a mountain top with nothing but books on witchcraft and a handful of Joni Mitchell records (reflecting her actual retreat into the woods to work on new material), the singer/songwriter flexes her emotional and musical growth on this gorgeous, introspective cut.
Entombed A.D. - "Torment Remains"
If big, dumb riffs and gnarly death & roll breakdowns are what you seek, look no further than the masters of the game Entombed A.D.'s "Torment Remains" for a hulking good time. There's no nuance to be found here, only straight-up skull-bashing and a few neatly placed squealing solos stacked against icy riffs of condemnation. Listen at your own risk.
Ghostemane with Parv0 - "To Whom It May Concern"
After adding hardcore punk and haunting acoustic rock to his repertoire, Ghostemane has returned to his frenetic hip-hop roots with his latest Human Error EP. Standout track "To Whom It May Concern" has Ghoste rapping over a moody beat set up by producer Parv0, where he switches between a super-fast delivery and a slower, creepier one. Any song that can re-contextualize the lyrics "You think you got it, Oh you think you got it" from Outkast's "Hey Ya" into something menacing is a winner.
Sacred Reich - "Awakening"
Seasoned thrashers Sacred Reich have been riffing hard since 1985, but with their latest fiery single "Awakening" — from their first new studio album in over two decades — they prove they're just as heavy and furious as ever. Whiplash licks and the guttural, bellowing vocals of frontman Phil Rind drive the entirety of the nonstop banger for a gritty, sludgy take that pushes the confines of thrash itself for a highly unique and fist-pounding experience.
Sheer Mag - "Blood From a Stone"
Simply put, Sheer Mag are out here to fucking rock. The Philly-based power-pop band deals in a kind of rousing Seventies-influenced hard rock that somehow fits perfectly for the Power Trip crowd. On their latest single, "Blood From a Stone," singer Tina Halladay's staggering vocals are the focal point, as she fearlessly delivers her vulnerable lyrics with gale-force strength. A truly powerful, undeniably cool track.
Tomb Mold - "Accelerative Phenomenae"
Tomb Mold know how to serve up absolutely ripping death metal that will make you want to puke acid. "Accelerative Phenomenae" manages to wrap together everything that's sick about the genre in one go, opening with a machine-gun riff and dipping into grooves as it goes on. And just as the cascading waves of heaviness start to overwhelm — the band drops a wallop of a breakdown.
