Here at Revolver, we're always on the hunt for new songs to bang our heads to — indeed, it's a big part of our jobs. With that in mind, here are the tracks released this week in metal, hard rock and hardcore that have been on heavy rotation at Revolver HQ. For your listening pleasure, we've also compiled the songs in a Spotify playlist, which will grow each week.
Bloodbather - "VOID"
"'Void' is about fixation on a person and perceiving how good they have it," Bloodbather vocalist-bassist Kyler Millo says of this industrialized metallic hardcore banger. "And wanting to wear their skin metaphorically and literally after observing them (stalking them) for an undisclosed period of time." Fittingly, the fast-rising Floridian duo's serrated sound is more than capable of flaying the listener raw and bloody.
Dropdead - "Prelude/Torches"
Philip Anselmo regularly rocks their T-shirts. Nasum covered them. It's been 22 long years since Rhode Island hardcore-punk ragers Dropdead released their last album, Untitled, but never fear: They haven't mellowed one iota in the interim. To the contrary, "Prelude" and "Torches" roar full-speed straight-ahead like a runaway freight train on a one-way trip to hell.
The Fall of Troy - "We Are the Future"
Any time the Fall of Troy drop new music, it's worth paying attention. Bandleader-guitarist Thomas Erak is a Botchian master of knotty riffery, weirdo shredding and gauzy atmospherics, and to that end, "We Are the Future" does not disappoint, seguing as it does between alternately furious and dirge-y movements. The mathy Washington state post-hardcore outfit might not, in fact, be the future, but they're certainly paving the way.
Terminal Nation - "Disciple of Deceit"
Barreling straight outta Arkansas, Terminal Nation deliver totally nasty hardcore pummel in the vein of Nails and Xibalba with "Disciple of Deceit," foaming at the mouth and buzzsawing through the amps. Our favorite part? The bellow of "You wouldn't know oppression if it nailed you to the fucking cross!" before the band launches into a crushing, slow-motion death churn.
Gone Is Gone - "Everything Is Wonderfall"
Gone Is Gone — the alt-metal supergroup featuring Mastodon's Troy Sanders, Queens of the Stone Age's Troy Van Leeuwen and At the Drive-In's Tony Hajjar — have been largely quiet since 2017's Phantom Limb EP. But there are signs of life: They offered up the Pink Floydian single "No One Ever Walked on Water" late last year, and now comes "Everything Is Wonderfall," a soaring, shimmering "mantra" and "meditation" that lives up to the band's fine lineage.
HEALTH x Full of Hell - "Full of Health"
Electronic-rock experimentalists HEALTH and noise-grind miscreants Full of Hell always seem to be creating and collaborating. It was perhaps only a matter of time before they did so together. The Skinny Puppy-esque result, cleverly titled "Full of Health," is menacing, apocalyptic, and ready to rule the industrial-club dance floor.
