Alien: Covenant concept artist Dominic Hailstone dropped a Tool-related bombshell in a recent interview with Yutani, claiming he's working with the band on a new music video due out later this year.

The filmmaker failed to reveal any specifics regarding the song featured in the clip, or its connection (if any) to Tool's long-in-the-works 10,000 Days follow-up, but claims the band's guitarist Adam Jones — who typically oversees their music videos — has given the filmmaker full creative license for the visual. "Adam Jones gave me complete artistic freedom so the only constraint was the budget," he told Yutani. "We had a lot of fun figuring that out."

Long regarded as a special-effects guru, Hailstone is best known for crafting eerie CGI visuals with a morbid, abstract slant, as seen in his short film The Eel (2004), and more recently, Alien: Covenant. The Brit has also directed several music videos for artists such as Isis and Mogwai.

If Hailstone's claim proves to be true, the revelation scans as a huge point of relief for anxious Tool fans in the wake of Maynard James Keenan's recent tweets refuting a 2018 release date for the band's new album. But hey, look on the bright side: A Perfect Circle's long-overdue new album finally has a title (Eat the Elephant) and a release date (April 20th). You win some, you lose some.

Below, watch Maynard James Keenan train in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and talk about how fighting inspires and reflects his philosophy of sustainable living and creativity.
