BDSM, Industrial, L.A.: See New Doc on Rising Band CONTRACULT Collective

Inside the provocative vision of new Roadrunner signees

Last week, we premiered the new, standalone single "WDYT" from L.A. industrial insurgents CONTRACULT Collective, who announced their signing to hard-rock and metal stronghold Roadrunner Records earlier this year. The song arrived with a frantic DIY video filmed by the band members themselves — Svart (vocals, production), Culprit (guitar) and BX (synthesizer, backup vocals) — while quarantined during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Today (April 29th), our friends at The Pit unveiled a new original mini-documentary on the group, the first in the media outlet's video series The Heavy Among Us. Titled What Burns in the Soul: CONTRACULT Collective, the short film, shot with the band in L.A. in innocent pre-coronavirus times, provides a deep dive into their provocative vision. Read the original doc description below, and watch above.

"In the first installment of The Pit's mini-documentary series The Heavy Among Us, Svart and Cultprit of the LA industrial act CONTRACULT collective open up about the origins of the band, the link between industrial music and BDSM, and their resistance and opposition to many trends that have plagued the heavy-metal industry for years. Plus, a behind-the-scenes inside look at their debut show in Los Angeles at the Echo in February 2020."
