It has been a tumultuous year for Stephen Brodsky. In March, his friend and Cave In bandmate Caleb Scofield died in a tragic truck accident; in the wake of the musician's death, Brodsky partook in a series of cathartic tribute concerts, including a poignant acoustic set at Roadburn fest, as well as Boston and L.A. benefit shows for Scofield's family, featuring performances by Cave In, Converge, the reunited members of ISIS, and Scofield's other band Old Man Gloom. Concerts such as these underline the sustaining power of music. In that spirit, we asked Brodsky — who will release a new album from his current band Mutoid Man in 2019 — to share some of his favorite music and musical moments from the past 12 months. Below is what he offered up.
