Mike Hranica is the vocalist of metalcore group the Devil Wears Prada, who just wrapped up their 10-year anniversary tour for the band's classic 2009 album, With Roots Above and Branches Below. In addition, the frontman and a couple of his TDWP bandmates also dropped God Alone's debut, Bent Shoulders, in the summer, a record that celebrates the gnarled sounds of post-punk and noise-rock.

Inversion can be a pleasing interaction. Reviewing music of 2018, some of my most anticipated releases were complete flops, while a few artists have been like green stems branching up through cracked and dried riverscapes. It's something more than taste changing with age. New music brings new bloom, novel growth. 2018 brought some lovely full-lengths, and if I were to narrow down to 10 of my favorite, they would be:

Bruce Lamont - Broken Limbs Excite No Pity

Bongripper - Terminal

Courtney Barnett - Tell Me How You Really Feel

Fucked Up - Dose Your Dreams

Kurt Vile - Bottle It In

Melvins - Pinkus Abortion Technician

Phosphorescent - C'est La Vie

Preoccupations - New Material

Sleep - The Sciences

Yob - Our Raw Heart
