2019 has been one of the biggest years in heavy music in recent memory, with heavyweights such as Tool, Slipknot and Rammstein dropping long-awaited new albums, while trailblazing up-and-comers pushed boundaries in their own right. Thrash veterans Anthrax may not have dropped any new material over the last 12 months, but they have been hard at work on their next album, the follow-up to 2016's For All Kings. With that in mind, we asked guitarist Jon Donais (formerly of Shadows Fall) to share some of his favorite shit from this year — below is what he offered up.

Killswitch Engage - Atonement

These guys have always put out quality music from day one. They did it again with this one.

Evergrey - The Atlantic

The musicianship in this band is top notch. They have great hooks and the guitar is ripping!

Sebastian Bach performing the first Skid Row record in its entirety

Skid Row was such a big deal to me when I was a kid. They're one of the main bands that made me want to be in a band and tour. It was so great hearing this record all the way through. Sebastian and his band sounded great!

Slayer’s Final World Tour

I've toured with Slayer more than any other band out there. Since I've joined Anthrax, I think I've done five or six tours with them. I really hope that wasn't the last time that I'll ever see them.

Bill Burr's 'Paper Tiger' Netflix special

I think he's the funniest guy out there right now. He lays it all out there and doesn't give a fuck. Plus, he's a metalhead so he gets extra points for that.
