2019 has been one of the biggest years in heavy music in recent memory, with major players such as Tool, Slipknot and Rammstein dropping long-awaited new albums, while trailblazing up-and-comers pushed boundaries in their own right. For his part, Jordan Hunter released a ripping single, "Stare," with his post-hardcore band, the Florida-based LIMBS. With that in mind, we asked the guitarist to share some of his favorite music from the past year — below is what he offered up.

Dean Lewis – A Place We Knew

I've only been aware of this artist for the past seven months or so, but I was immediately hooked when I heard the single, "Waves." This music is really well written singer-songwriter material, and I'm here for it.

Dermot Kennedy – Outnumbered

Kennedy's debut LP dropped right at the beginning of October and it absolutely deserves at least one full spin from anyone. Some of the tracks were released earlier this year on a compilation he put out, but it doesn't take away from appeal of the LP whatsoever. Dermot Kennedy has a very eclectic voice and his songwriting is premo for the genre.

Khalid – Free Spirit

This release is easily one of the top albums of 2019. I seriously don't think there's an underwhelming track on the whole LP. Khalid's vocal abilities are next level and the hooks are fire. If you haven't bumped this record, and you're a fan of R&B/pop, you're truly missing out on what 2019's had to offer.

Bon Iver – i,i

Coming in at my No. 1 for 2019 is Bon Iver's newest release, i,i. This record is unique and continues to add to Justin Vernon's incredible legacy. Bon Iver has been my favorite artist for some time now, so I may be somewhat biased, but this album is amazing. It's a great and refreshing follow-up to his already pristine discography.
