Billy Howerdel: Hear A Perfect Circle Guitarist's First Solo Song in 14 Years

"Poison Flowers" is the first taste a new album under his own name

One of our most anticipated albums of 2022 is the new solo album from A Perfect Circle guitarist Billy Howerdel, who's gearing up to drop his first self-helmed album since his 2008 debut as Ashes Divide. Today is a good day for us, because Howerdel has broken his 14-year silence as a soloist and released a new song called "Poison Flowers," which is notably credited under his own name — not Ashes Divide. Besides the drums, which are handled by former A Perfect Circle member Josh Freese, Howerdel sings and plays every instrument on the self-produced track, which is an ethereal, brooding and intensely stark creeper with gothic vocals and oodles of atmospheric textures. Listen to "Poison Flowers" above via YouTube.

"'Poison Flowers' began with the bass guitar part and all of the pieces flowed from there," Howerdel said. "It's a rare feeling when the process of writing blocks out all distractions. The upcoming songs reflect back to my earliest influences and 'Poison Flowers' leads well into the rest of the album."

Howerdel is remaining mum on any other details about the upcoming record, but it sounds like we'll be hearing more about it in the not-too-distant future. Stay tuned.
