Black Sabbath to Receive Lifetime Achievement Award at 2019 Grammys

No word yet on if the band will attend to accept the trophy

What do Julio Iglesias, George Clinton and Black Sabbath have in common? OK, not much, but they will be all receiving Lifetime Achievement Awards at the Grammys next year.

That's right, The Recording Academy has unveiled the titans of industry to which they'll be bestowing trophies in Los Angeles in Spring, and Birmingham's finest are on that list. This is a big deal, when you consider the dearth of metallic nominees in the Academy's purview. Sabbath will undoubtedly be the heaviest band inducted into canon, and hopefully they'll pave the way for others in their wake. (You have to imagine Metallica will be next.)

Black Sabbath, of course, called it quits back in 2017, and before their farewell tour, fell out with original drummer Bill Ward. There's no confirmation if the band —or which members, if any — will be at the event to accept the award.
