Clown on Slipknot Album: "There's Another 15 Songs That Didn't Make the Cut"

Slipknot percussionist and founding member Shawn "Clown" Crahan recently talked to Kerrang! about the whittling-down process behind the final track list for the Iowa juggernaut's forthcoming full-length, We Are Not Your Kind. Explaining the band didn't initially know what songs would make it on the record ("no one does") throughout the intense writing process, Clown revealed that there's "another 15 songs that didn't make it on the record," including "seven or eight" completed pieces that ended up on the cutting-room floor.

When pressed on whether fans can expect to hear those lost songs, Clown was less direct. He described how artists go about determining the makeup of an LP, explaining that the band "basically [had to] decide which ones of those records can make up a thought process known as We Are Not Your Kind."

The We Are Your Not Your Kind leftovers are hardly the only unreleased Slipknot songs that are currently sitting in a vault somewhere. The band notably also has nearly a whole album's worth of material that didn't make the cut from the All Hope Is Gone sessions. Most of this was produced in "experimental" and "cerebral" sessions spearheaded by Clown and guitarist Jim Root. "It was fun," Root told Revolver in our cover story around the album, "and Clown and I were able to do things like record frogs and then write a song around the way the frogs sound. We put Corey down in a well and had him sing and it sounds like he's in a cavern."

Slipknot's We Are Your Not Your Kind — the band's sixth studio album — is set to drop in just over a week on August 9th. The Nine are currently headlining the first-ever Knotfest Roadshow alongside Behemoth, Gojira and Volbeat. see the upcoming itinerary below.
