Converge's Jacob Bannon to Curate Roadburn 2018

Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Bell Witch, Panopticon to play Netherlands fest

Each year, music fans flock to Tilburg, Netherlands, for Roadburn, a weekend-long celebration of all things musical and heavy. Today, organizers have announced the first roster of bands set to play next year's festival, which takes place April 19th-22nd at the Tilburg venue 013. More artists will be added as the event approaches; in the meantime, check out the first round of performers in the official Roadburn 2018 trailer.

Roadburn 2018's guest curator is Jacob Bannon, who will perform two sets with his band Converge. The first performance will find them doing their new album, The Dusk in Us, in full, while the second set will tackle 2004's You Fail Me. Additional performers of note include acclaimed post-rock outfit Godspeed You! Black Emperor, doomsayers Bell Witch and atmospheric black-metal group Panopticon, all of whom will perform two sets apiece. Ex Eye, the metal group fronted by lauded saxophonist Colin Stetson, have been confirmed for the festival well, along with the Heads, IGORRR, Aerial Ruin, Sangre De  Muerdago and illustrator Richey Beckett.

"It is an honor to be working as the curator for Roadburn Festival 2018," says Bannon. "The festival is unlike any other, showcasing the most forward-thinking artists and musicians of the heavy-music world." He pledges to "reach across [heavy music]'s subgenres to bring together an array incredible bands/musicians, expanding the reach of the festival while celebrating the world of extreme music that we all love." Sounds like a plan!

Roadburn 2018 tickets go on sale October 19th. Save the date, because this festival always sells out fast.
