The heavy-music world continues to go nuts for Japanese metal-inspired teen idol group Babymetal. Between last year's Alternative Press Music Awards performance with Judas Priests' Rob Halford, recent stints opening for Metallica, Guns N' Roses and Korn, and sky-high album sales the world over, the trio has long since transcended novelty-act status to become globally-adored, highly-respected heavy-metal ambassadors. Now, they've got yet another famous admirer: Corey Taylor. The Slipknot/Stone Sour frontman declared his fandom in a new interview with Junkee — and what's more, the vocalist credits his 14-year-old son, Griffin Taylor, for getting him into the group in the first place.
"He's actually the one that got me into Babymetal!" Taylor explained. "I'd never heard of them, and he comes running up to me and is like, 'You gotta check this out.'" Taylor was blown away. "It was like "What the fuck?" he said of his first exposure to the band, with a laugh. "[Griffin's] enthusiasm is what got me into them." The frontman went on to reflect on his son's emergent music obsession and the positive effects on their relationship. "I never had that with any person who tried to be my parent growing up," Taylor said. "This is a really new thing for me, and I love it. It's really cool." Keep the recommendations coming, Griffin!
