Cradle of Filth's Song With Ed Sheeran Is in Progress: "He's Done Some of It"

Cradle of Filth Ed Sheeran split

One of the most shocking reveals of 2021 is that Ed Sheeran grew up a metalhead. And not just any metalhead, but a fan of bands as extreme as Slipknot and Cradle of Filth. After rumors swirled last summer that Sheeran and Cradle of Filth singer Dani Filth were in touch and potentially working on a collaboration, Filth told us that those theories were overblown and that the two had just connected a couple times over text to chat.

Now, it seems like things have really progressed within the last year. In a new interview with Knotfest, Filth said that he not only linked up with Sheeran in person, but that they actually began work on a joint song that's currently underway.

"We still have yet to finish our song with Ed Sheeran," Filth said. "He's done some of it, but then he had a baby, and then he got obviously sidetracked with that and doing whatever Ed does, which is play massive shows around the globe. He's not at our beck and call. But he is gonna finish it, he assures me. Actually, I spoke to him quite recently."

"[It will be released] when it's finished," he added of its unplanned release date. "We don't know when it's coming out."

Even though Sheeran notably collaborated with Bring Me the Horizon on a metalcore version of "Bad Habits" earlier this year, it's still pretty shocking to know that one of the biggest pop stars in the world is currently working with a symphonic black-metal band as extreme and over-the-top as Cradle of Filth. Hopefully the fruits of their labor see the light of day sometime soon.
