Danny Carey Says New Tool Album Coming in April: "That's the Plan"

Drummer dropped info to fan while signing autographs at NAMM

While no official confirmation has come from the Tool camp just yet, the band's drummer Danny Carey was filmed at the NAAM convention in Anaheim, California, telling a fan that the group's long-awaited new album should drop this spring. When asked about a release, Carey says, "It's out mid-April. That's the plan anyway." See the clip above.

Prior to this statement, the last public update about the record came from singer Maynard James Keenan, who, at the beginning of this year, claimed vocal tracking was completed "months ago." The band confirmed in March 2018 that they'd entered the studio for pre-production with Joe Barresi, the producer of their Grammy-nominated 2006 record 10,000 Days.

This isn't the first time Carey has commented on the album — he previously told Music Radar in January 2018, "All I can say is it's still something in progress ... Definitely this year." Obviously, that didn't pan out, so don't take his word — or frankly, the word of any of Tool's members, who are notorious for planting hoaxes and providing misinformation — as gospel.

Keenan finished a European run of dates with his other band A Perfect Circle in December, and in the meantime can be found occasionally antagonizing nosy fans on Twitter.
