Dave Grohl's New Doc 'What Drives Us': See Metallica, Slayer, L7 Members in Trailer

A testament to the life of the touring musician

Dave Grohl has a new documentary, What Drives Us, set to premiere later this month (April 30th, to exact) on The Coda Collection/Amazon Prime Video. As he did 2013's Sound City, the current Foo Fighters frontman and former Nirvana drummer directed the film, which is described as a testament to the life of the touring musician. The doc features a host of big-name guests including the Beatles' Ringo Starr, Guns N' Roses' Slash and Duff McKagan, AC/DC's Brian Johnson, Metallica's Lars Ulrich, OG Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo, U2's Edge, Red Hot Chili Peppers' Flea, and St. Vincent. Lesser-known up-and-coming bands such as Radkey and Starcrawler also appear.

"This film is my love letter to every musician that has ever jumped in an old van with their friends and left it all behind for the simple reward of playing music," Grohl commented. "What started as a project to pull back the curtain on the DIY logistics of stuffing all of your friends and equipment into a small space for months on end eventually turned into an exploration of 'why?' What drives us?" Watch the trailer above.
